6.5 / 10.0 - GreedFall

GreedFall takes place in an amazing and intriguing world but fails to be interesting on the gameplay front.

Despite some early game woes and a premise that doesn't fully pan out, Remnant: From the Ashes is a very unique game.

6.5 / 10.0 - Gravel
Feb 27, 2018

If you are a huge racing game fan that is interested in what the game is trying to do, it may be worth checking out, as it's not a poorly-made game. Otherwise, I'd wait for a price drop before adding this to your collection. Gravel does have a lot of room to expand for a sequel, so I do hope Milestone gives this type of racing game another stab with more memorable results.

6.5 / 10.0 - 20XX
Jul 14, 2018

If the procedurally generated levels were better, I'd wholeheartedly recommend 20XX to anyone, but with how it currently functions, I can only recommend it to Mega Man fans who need that itch scratched. With that said, Mega Man X Legacy Collection releases later this month, and Mega Man 11 arrives in October, so that window is already dwindling. 20XX is a game that controls nicely and surely felt needed and relevant back when it hit Early Access in 2014, but winds up feeling underwhelming in 2018.

Unfortunately, it falls into some of the some old trappings of the genre that prevent it from joining the great 3D platformers that it is clearly inspired by. Samey worlds that are larger than needed are Unbox: Newbie's Adventure's biggest bane; the game may have benefited if it had smaller and more concise worlds. As it stands, if you are a fan of 3D platformers and are intrigued by this game's unique control scheme, it's worth giving a shot — just be aware that it can fall victim to some of the genre's more frustrating problems.

While the underlying games hold up as well as they ever did, Batman: Return to Arkham as a remasterwas very disappointing — especially compared to others that masterfully retouch games like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection or Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Of the two, only Arkham Ayslum’s remaster is worth playing through; with no additional content beyond both games’ previous DLC, I would only recommend Return to Arkham to either die-hard Batman fans or those who don’t have access to an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Anyone charmed by the original’s rough edges will enjoy this thorough and faithful reimagining of the cherished platformer, though it may have benefitted from a bit more time in the oven to polish out technical problems and make the multiplayer mode bearable.

I went into Immortals of Aveum expecting a linear experience akin to Call of Duty but found a game with unexpectedly vast levels, a world rich with intriguing lore, and vibrant combat that kept me on my toes. It’s a solid choice for those looking for an inventive shooter that stands out from the crowd in that genre, although boring puzzles and cloying dialogue drain some magic out of the experience.
