Super Mario Party brings one of the longest running party game series to the Nintendo Switch, in a game that brings a much expected online component and a great variety of gaming modes. While the amount of content is to be praised, not all is perfect in Super Mario Party, and the one player experience, as well as the co-op games, feel too simple. The online component also falls short of expectations, even if it's a welcome development, but Mario Party is still the number one name in party games out there.

7 / 10 - Overcooked 2
Aug 16, 2018

Overcooked! 2 builds up on the original game and improves the overall art style while bringing a new online multiplayer component, thus improving the overall experience. This could have been done without scaling back the difficulty and challenge level of the game, which along with some new but rather unnecessary features make this sequel a mixed bag when it comes to the improvements over the original.

RIVE features an addictive and fluid gameplay that will keep the players focused for long hours around the game's very demanding difficulty level and its high-level audiovisual presentation. Playing RIVE is a highly satisfying experience that is more than recommended to everyone without any reservations regarding their preferences.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 features plenty of elements that will marvel the players and fans, including an immense amount of content, an enormous lifespan and exquisite visuals and soundtrack. Not all is perfect, though, as the interface really needs to be more user-friendly and the game takes long from the beginning until it becomes more compelling to play, issues that should be solved in the near future with downloadable updates.

Seeing as there are plenty of games in the same genre appearing on Nintendo's new console and how League of Evil doesn't feature anything that makes it groundbreaking, this ends up being a game that won't cause a significant impact on most players.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe improves on everything that made the original an excellent game and reinforces its status as the greatest game in the Mario Kart series. Increasing on its content and bringing back the battle mode as it once was, this edition also adds technical improvements to make it fit with the Nintendo Switch. This all adds up to a magnificent entry that no player should overlook.

Super Bomberman R marks the return of the Bomberman series after a long absence and the result is a mixed bag. While the local multiplayer works as expected from a Bomberman game (the Joycon controls do everything right) and is by far the most fun component of Super Bomberman R, its story mode fails to stand out and several technical flaws prevent it from reaching a higher quality threshold. The game also seems unambitious, with very few innovations compared to what was already seen in the series.

4 / 10 - Plantera
Mar 4, 2017

Plantera may be the only game of the clicker genre to be available for Nintendo systems but that does not excuse it from its overall repetitiveness, performance problems and interface issues that make this game difficult to play and less involving and fun than it could be, had it been developed with more practical considerations in mind.

Rhythm Paradise Megamix is the ultimate version of Rhythm Paradise, boasting a great lifespan and a very varied content which will keep the players involved for long, fun, challenging hours. Its added story mode is not necessary and can make the experience longer but the main core of the game makes it the top title in the series.

Super Mario Maker is where fanship turns into craftsmanship for those who for years have wished to design their own Mario levels. The game is intuitive and perfectly accessible for experienced players and newcomers alike. The lack of multiplayer is difficult to understand, though, as is the nine day timeframe needed to unlock all contents of the level design tool.

6 / 10 - Elliot Quest
Jun 8, 2015

Elliot Quest boasts a charming retro look and sound environment and its dungeons are very well designed and laid out. Unfortunately its performance is way below par and its gameplay mechanics make it too difficult and repetitive to play, while the locations outside the dungeons are too confusing to keep track of.

8 / 10 - Boxboy
Apr 22, 2015

Boxboy is a fun and addictive puzzle game that is certain to keep players around it for some time, not just because of its mechanics but also because it introduces new ideas and challenges at a very high pace. It only suffers from its washed away visual style, which could have used more work, even for a game of this genre.

Titan Attack is based on a tribute to Space Invaders but includes several contemporary innovations. While the game is long and entertaining enough, the 3DS conversion needed more work and its price is too exaggerated for what the game provides.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D brings to the New 3DS what was one of the best games released for the Wii in all its JRPG glory. While some technical aspects are clearly downgraded, this does not affect the overall experience of the game and with an enormous gameplay and world to explore, this Xenoblade port is an excellent opportunity for newcomers.

8 / 10 - Ittle Dew
Nov 26, 2014

Players should not be deceived by Ittle Dew's apparent similarities with The Legend of Zelda series. The references are merely for comic and background effect and this is, in reality, a very satisfying puzzle game that will delight those with enough mental energy to invest their time on it.

SteamWorld Dig has all the right ingredients: the inspiration, the fun factor, the captivating nature and the technical execution. Any game that successfully brings together elements from Metroid and Minecraft is a hit and other than its relatively short lifespan, there's no reason why SteamWorld Dig won't seduce and captivate players one more time.

Wooden Sen'SeY shows some ambition but unfortunately, its badly implemented control schemes and physics make it extremely difficult and frustrating to play. Sadly, if these problems were addressed, this would be a much more attractive game but it's impossible going around such pressing control issues when the controls are so difficult to use.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, a title as long and exaggerated as the fun and entertainment this game provides. One of the Wii U's best works, Guacamelee's enhanced version plays like a a "metroidvania" type of game and fills the spaces with a delightful atmosphere, an exquisite artistic component and an affection which is set to grow in the player's heart.
