6 / 10 - Niffelheim
Oct 9, 2019

Niffelheim's experience is one of 2D action and survival with RPG elements, though it doesn't quite succeed in all of them. There's a remarkable lack of customization choices, the combat is too simplistic and the difficulty level peaks suddenly but that doesn't mean Niffelheim doesn't do a good job on its survival angle, as well as on its art style and use of mythology in its lore and plot.

7 / 10 - Candleman
Oct 16, 2019

Candleman is a simple game with a charming plot that could not stand out more for both its simplicity and uniqueness. Thanks to its praise-worthy level design Candleman is an experience that can easily become rewarding for anyone who wants to play it even for only 10 minutes, which makes it fit like a charm on the Nintendo Switch. There is not much more to Candleman, though, which is a pity as the game could offer much more if it was more ambitious.

Ring Fit Adventure is unusual, strange, fun, well-structured and something which only Nintendo could have come up with. What could very well be a no-frills fitness app is actually a fully-fledged game with all the right ingredients and which can get the player to enjoy physical exercise, all while fulfilling the requirements to be an enjoyable game.

Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment land on the Nintendo Switch after their original premiere many years ago. It's always good to see relevant titles getting re-released on the Switch, in this case there are elements which still stand very well, such as the plot, the customization level and the huge amount of content. On the other hand, visually these games have not aged very well and the experience is not very well suited for newcomers or for a handheld format.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive is a visual novel that gets two crucial points right: its plot and its high quality writing. Quite the saviours, as the gameplay experience ends up getting harmed by a lack of player guidance and the use of 3D models feels entirely out of place of the game's theme. Nevertheless, those looking for an engaging plot and a detailed, descriptive writing that will keep the player focused for long hours have a good option in the form of Corpse Party: Blood Drive for the Nintendo Switch.

7 / 10 - Vampyr
Nov 9, 2019

Vampyr puts the player at the centre of a very well written plot where many sub-plots intertwine, with the player's actions seriously affecting the narrative developments that follow. This alone is very much worthy of praise, but the game's gothic atmosphere is outstanding. Vampyr's rather long loading times and occasional unstable performance can feel frustrating at times but the game undoubtedly brings an added value to Nintendo Switch owners.

Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and The Millionaires' Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition brings less to the Nintendo Switch than the length of its name might suggest. As a remaster of a previously released game, the biggest differences lie in the audiovisual element, but there are new puzzles featured in this version. It's not a very demanding game and doesn't overtake the most significant games in the Layton series but this is a charming and welcoming introduction for those who have never explored the world of these adventure & detective games.

7 / 10 - Raging Loop
Nov 16, 2019

Accessible and with a very well crafted plot, Raging Loop feels a bit disappointing regarding the art style of its settings and some of the endings are inconsequential but the overall result is an experience that is welcoming for both fans of visual novels and for beginners.

Into the Dead 2 is an endless runner originating in the mobile gaming segment and for that, it does a decent job with its apocalyptic atmosphere and fun gameplay mechanics. If only it had been properly adapted for the Nintendo Switch, however, then perhaps the game would be something more worthy of the console's catalogue, rather than a visually enhanced version of a short experience for mobile devices. As such, it's also impossible to justify its selling price when the original version is free.

8 / 10 - Sparklite
Dec 5, 2019

This roguelite work with clear Zelda influences is certain to keep players concentrated on its marvelous and colourful game world and motivating gameplay, while the outstanding soundtrack does a great job at pleasing the ears. Anyone who enjoys exploring new worlds, catching items and some combat action will have all the reasons to get their hands on Sparklite.

7 / 10 - Cat Quest II
Dec 9, 2019

Cat Quest II is an action RPG that with its world of cats and dogs, makes for a funny and good-humoured experience. With its colourful and eye-filling world and a simple combat system, Cat Quest II can get a bit repetitive at some points and there's not a lot to do after the main quest is done but that doesn't stand on the way of Cat Quest II being another very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

5 / 10 - Dead End Job
Dec 22, 2019

Dead End Job on the Nintendo Switch is a twin-stick shooter that gets part of the combat system right, with its direct and simple action and whose art style will find a place with fans of 1990s animation. That said, the game's areas are way too repetitive and monotonous, and several aspects just don't stand up to what is expected, with the result being a work that is often difficult to enjoy.

7 / 10 - Bee Simulator
Dec 25, 2019

Bee Simulator bears the markings of a fun action game, as well as of an educational experience. With its myriad of information about bees and an enjoyable, relaxing gameplay that will be welcomed by both children and adults, Bee Simulator would benefit from more precise controls, as well as from a more polished visual environment but nothing that precludes it from being a fun experience.

2 / 10 - Beast Quest
Jan 7, 2020

Beast Quest is an adventure game and one that is devoid of any impressive qualities that would justify its purchase. While not all games need to have groundbreaking visuals or tap into a rush of addictive behaviour in our brains, Beast Quest does not present any compelling arguments to give it a chance: it's shallow, repetitive, it has an empty plot, too many performance issues and to top it all off, its price tag is way too exaggerated. A few tweaks here and there could make it into something minimally entertaining but what's on display here should not be recommended to anyone.

6 / 10 - Demon Pit
Jan 9, 2020

Demon Pit for the Nintendo Switch does a good job at being a simple, 1990s-based shooter. With its unpretentious but intense action moments, Demon Pit will strike a chord with those looking to relive simpler times. That said and given today's technology, the experience could only improve if this version allowed the use of motion-controls when it comes to aiming, the same goes for its default auto-aiming function, which cannot be switched off.

3 / 10 - Football Game
Jan 15, 2020

Those expecting sports action should turn away - this is a 1990s-style adventure game which at no moment engages the player in any kind of football whatsoever. That said, Football Game does not stand out as either a puzzle or an adventure game. With a dull, uninteresting plot and characters and puzzles which are way too simplistic, Football Game quickly loses its purpose and won't do much for those who will feel attracted by its graphics.

Garage Mechanic Simulator for the Nintendo Switch doesn't seem like the most ambitious game ever made but its gameplay experience delivers virtually nothing worthy of note. This car mechanic simulator didn't set a very high threshold but with a control system that feels everything but intuitive, an interface that gives no information whatsoever and almost nothing to stimulate the player, this is a work that does not deserve much of an opportunity.

Super Weekend Mode is a very simple game. Its sole purpose is to entertain and for that, it ditches things like plot or character development. If it's true that a good plot and involvement with the characters can make a masterpiece, it's no less true that not all games need them, and Super Weekend Mode, in its extreme simplicity, is an enjoyable game, even if not an in-depth experience.

Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha on the Nintendo Switch brings a compilation of six old-school shoot'em-ups, the kind that made many fans in the 1990s. The games featured in the collection are overall quite good and entertaining and the way this compilation was adapted to the Nintendo Switch works wonders for the experience of retro shoot'em-ups. While more extras and additional content wouldn't harm, Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha will make shoot'em-ups fans very satisfied with this collection.

Galaxy Champions TV is a twin stick shoot'em-up that follows the genre's classic conventions. With its fun gameplay and very well tuned controls, the game creates a good territory for itself on the Nintendo Switch. However, its difficulty level soars too quickly and without much balance, as Galaxy Champions TV becomes an almost merciless experience with barely an introduction, thus making the game rely too much on its frustrating elements for longevity's sake.
