All in all, we loved Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories for taking us back to our roots and reminding us of simpler times when games were much more limited and required a unique type of creativity and imagination in their nostalgic design and witty storytelling. Short but sweet, if you're looking for a well-written little adventure that walks a dark path, you'll enjoy this evocative, melon-choly journey.

Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories is a unique journey into an interesting world. There's a lot to uncover and enjoy as you explore, with neat retro graphics and soundtrack. This is one to check out, although a glitch (which is hopefully now patched) does mar things slightly-be sure to save regularly.

At the end of the day, I'm not left with much to remember about Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories. The charm of its characters and writing are readily apparent, but there's simply not much to do in places like Ham Town and Hog Town. While the hard crashes certainly put a damper on my experience, it was the fact that I really had to force myself to keep picking up the game that speak volumes. Those looking for a light and chill story-centered adventure may enjoy the handful of hours you can sink into Melon Journey. Others may want to stick to watermelon for their sweet memories.

With a story full of twists and social criticism alongside charismatic and interesting characters, Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories is an excellent adventure that awakens our nostalgia with its pixel art graphics and jazz lo-fi soundtrack. The lack of a portuguese localization may alienate some players, but even so, this indie remains one of the pleasant surprises of the year.

Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories stands out by presenting a really fun and lighthearted story, offering mystery, crimes and other serious issues with critical humor. Its graphics and soundtrack are special highlights, as they represent what a game from the nostalgic Game Boy would be with [high] fidelity. The absence of Portuguese text is an issue since the adventure is focused on reading but it doesn't diminish the shine of a pleasant and compelling game.

With simple gameplay and a humorous plot that also touches some serious themes, Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories is a great addition to the Switch library, giving the player moments of laugh and thoughtfulness in equal measures. Sadly, the lack of a Portuguese translation may be a barrier for some people to have access to this excellent product.

Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories is a delightfully presented game with a short story that manages to be insightful without deviating from its cute aesthetic. While I personally feel the price of the game does not justify the length and unambitious gameplay, I can see others enjoying Bittersweet Memories if they don’t mind the cost of entry.
