Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Reviews
The story is lacking, but great environments, a new class, and more freedom—partially from the free patch—make for a better Diablo III.
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is a solid expansion building upon a patch that was brought about from player input. Blizzard listened to complaints, and moved to rectify issues, not just remove them, while mixing in an impressive amount of new material. It's more than enough to entice veteran players to return, and if you have never played Diablo 3, there has never been a better time to start.
First major expansion for Blizzard's popular dungeon crawler adds a new act, a new end-game mode, and significantly tweaks critical game systems.
While its current value is questionable, Reaper of Souls will most likely maintain a higher value than most games over the long run. And if Diablo III has as long of a life as its predecessor, then the few extra dollars spent now will have been a wise investment.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is the game that should have been released two years ago. Even saying that, waiting patiently for this past couple of years, it was well worth it. The inclusion of Loot 2.0, Paragon points, Adventure Mode, and the Crusader has made Diablo III a bright and shiny new game that has finally earned that 85 we assigned to it two years ago.
I've really enjoyed coming back to Diablo 3 with this expansion, Reaper of Souls. I had grown bored of playing through the same stuff, so having some fresh content to dive into has been great. It's still the same, fun game it always has been, but now with more stuff to do after you finish the story, and extra randomness that can hopefully stop its end game from becoming stale as quickly as the main game did. Whether or not this new Adventure Mode will be enough to keep away the boredom of repetition is something that is too early to tell. But after putting a good chunk of hours into it, I am hopeful it will.
The gist of Reaper of Souls is a good experience. It's more of stuff that keeps people coming back, but you'll have to trudge through dungeons for a few hours because there's another threat to all existence Tyrael says needs your attention before you can bathe in the cleansing waters of the main attraction, which is Adventure Mode. You do what you gotta do, I guess.
Reaper of Souls takes Diablo III and makes it much better, simple as that. I would highly recommend it to any fan who has decided to skip it. This is what Diablo III should have been!
This expansion was what the game needed, and it did so quite well. Congratulations to Blizzard on that! If you come back, hope to see you there in the game!
Though Reaper of Souls' story additions feel too open-ended, the new Crusader class and Adventure Mode go a long way towards revitalizing Diablo's inherently fun and addictive core gameplay.
It won't win over Diablo III haters but this is a competent expansion that will renew the addiction for fans and help to earn new ones.
Reaper of Souls brings great new campaign content to Diablo III while also giving you tantalizing reasons to revisit the places you've already been.
Diablo is back! This expansion is exactly what the franchise needed and the future looks bright for Blizzard's ARPG.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls offers little in the way of earth-shattering innovation, but the game is all the better for the new content it brings to the table. While it's unlikely to convert players who were unconvinced by the core game, Diablo III fans will gleefully devour every last morsel it has to offer.
Reaper of Souls, the expansion to Diablo III, adds a new class, a new chapter, and several very welcome changes to the original game's formula.
Blizzard has made several key changes to the Diablo 3 world with the addition of Adventure mode, the changes introduced with Loot 2.0, the removal of the Real Money Auction House and introducing the Crusader class (which is tons of fun if you like tanky classes). These changes have actually made the game fun again and it shows. Adventure mode allow will bring hours upon hours of play time and it's only going to get better. The key goal was to extend the life of the original Diablo 3 and based on what I've played it definitely seems like Blizzard succeeded with Reaper of Souls expansion. The key goal was to extend the life of the original Diablo 3 and based on what I've played it definitely seems like Blizzard succeeded with Reaper of Souls expansion. However, the made changes made can be a little overwhelming at times. It's left up to the player if that ultimately ends up being a good or bad thing
But subjectively it boils down to just how much use you will find yourself getting out of these new additions. The Crusader requires a reroll, bounties reuse locations and the addition of randomised dungeons might genuinely be a case of too little, too late. This is a superlative effort from Blizzard, but is it enough to change your mind if you've already decided against the instalment? Sadly, that's not a question we can answer for you.
The Reaper of Souls expansion provides a great amount of content, changes and balancing that significantly improves and extends the original Diablo III experience. The maps feel more focused, the bosses refined and the Crusader class is a joy to play. There is however one little sting in the tail: the cost.
Blizzard are asking for £29.99 ( ~ $40.00) for Reaper of Souls, which does seem like a lot, and for those that really weren't sold on the original, I would counsel them to give it another go now that all of the aforementioned patches have gone through before deciding to take the plunge with Reaper of Souls. That said, I had a lot of fun with it and shall probably be playing it for some time, as after a year-long Diablo hiatus I've been sufficiently pleased by the tweaks and enhancements that the developers have made to game to strongly recommend it.
Reaper Of Souls costs a bomb, but shakes up Diablo III so drastically that it feels like a different game. A truly superb new act, great new class and useful artisan will be worth the price of admission for many, while Adventure Mode sets the stage for an entirely new addiction over the coming months.
