The Castlevania Anniversary Collection doesn't do any fancy emulation tricks, but the games speak for themselves.

A surprisingly thorough compilation of 8 and 16-bit Castlevanias, that illustrates the early history of one of gaming's most influential franchises.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection always looked on-point when the full game list was announced, but I'm surprised at how great the extras are and how functional it is. More of this please, Konami.

A great compilation of Castlevania games, among the best you can find. If you prefer the classic gameplay over the 'metroidvania' style, you'll want to "bite".

Castlevania Anniversary Collection offers almost a dozen awesome games in just one pack. However, these are just ports to modern platforms and, if you compare Konami's work with what other franchises like Crash bandicoot, Spyro or Resident Evil have achieved with their remakes, Castlevania just falls behind.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a rock solid collection of (some) great old school games. Anyway, the lack of real extra features, apart from the ebook, the absence of a masterpiece as Rondo of Blood and some odd choices by Konami make the collection feel a little bit pedantic.

The eight retro games in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection focus on the early traditional platforming era from 1987 to 1994, and quality is assured in the four main numerical entries in the series.

Another Anniversary Collection which, like the Arcade one released a short time ago, leaves a bitter taste for the choices made by Konami in both quantitative and qualitative terms.

For the real gamers out there, the ones who want to consider the whole history of the medium, this collection is a wonderful gift. To people looking for classic design, for inspiration, for history, there’s a lot to like here.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a great chance to get the classics of the genre and remember the old days. Castlevania III, IV and Bloodlines are fun to play even now. And the ability to record progress at any time is particularly useful in ruthless 8-bit games. It is a pity that there are no later projects like Symphony of the Night in the collection. However, it can be easy recommended to all fans of the series and genre of old school action-platformers.

Despite the sheer volume of solid gold hits in the series, Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a somewhat mixed bag from Konami, with stone-cold classics sharing the spotlight with a couple of undead clunkers that really should have remained dead and buried.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a true gift for the long-running series :with eight great games to give the players a global look at what made those games classics. With modern tools like quick saves and decent filters, any fan of the Belmont family should here find a good reason to get back the old whip.

It's not greed in this day and age to expect publishers to respect and preserve their history. At this point, it's an artistic responsibility.

Konami Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a solid release, even without the best of the bunch, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Getting authentic ports of the classic series, while adding some small save features, and graphical options help to sell the package. The bonus book might be the best part of it, though, so that's something to look forward to if you're going to purchase it.

This is a much better way to pay homage to a glorious franchise than the Classics Arcade Collection of some weeks ago: download it if you love Castlevania or intend to discover the series for the first time.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a disappointing reunion for some of gaming's greatest titles (and a couple of its worst). New players will love the vampire-killing action on offer, but returning fans won't find anything to tempt them back.
