Oninaki Reviews
A classic RPG that works well but it's not great on every aspect of its gameplay.

ONINAKI is by no means the best in the genre but offers a strong foundation for Tokyo RPG Factory to build off of in the future.
Oninaki is strange. At first you think you love him, then the feeling changes and in the end you almost can't stand it anymore. The truth is in the middle: it is a good game with some interesting mechanics and others much less well chosen.

Oninaki is my favorite Tokyo RPG Factory game to date, with its gorgeous art style and melodic music and its more appealing storyline. It may be far from perfect, but it is certainly worth a look if you fancy a slightly different take on a well-established genre.
Death is never a comfortable topic. Oninaki, however, doesn't just address it but wholeheartedly runs with it. It doesn't always succeed but it does make you think about the meaning of mortality — perhaps a bit too much as people die left and right. The combat also could be a bit tighter and the story overstays its welcome a bit. Beautiful visuals compared with a haunting score, however, make the game a treat to behold. Here's hoping Tokyo RPG Factory further builds on this for their next new JRPG IP.
Oninaki is an enjoyable RPG if you’re looking for a melodramatic hack-and-slash RPG from yesteryear, and if you properly explore its Daemon mechanics. The game may have some missteps, but I think Tokyo RPG Factory could really shine with more time and a bigger budget.
Oninaki, Tokyo RPG Factory most recent attempt to reinvent the classic JRPG experience falls short. While the story is emotive and the concept of reincarnation is memorable, it's hack'n'slash formula turns boring in a flash. Nevertheless, Oninaki remains as a beautifully crafted experience designed for those that are fed up with the traditional turns-based systems, and newcomers in the genre.

Oninaki is a gorgeous and entertaining, if slightly clunky, RPG that isn't afraid to explore some heavy themes in novel ways.
A nice classic action-jrpg, but nothing more. Oninaki give some hours of fun but offer a very little game experience.

Oninaki could have been Tokyo RPG Factory's best work to date, but ends up to be "just" a solid hack'n'slash rpg with a good combat system due to repetitiveness and a lack of depth.

Oninaki is a solid action RPG with striking visuals and a compelling story if you're willing to dig into it.
Oninaki gives us, as a watcher we can travel between the world of mortals and souls. Although the story of the game is nice and cool but unfortunately the fighting mechanics are not very useful.

Oninaki is a likable RPG. Its story and setting are interesting, and the Daemons you collect to help you fight are cool. Unfortunately, bashing through uninteresting swarms of high-HP enemies puts a damper on the fun. Oninaki is still better than Tokyo RPG Factory's previous games; the studio seems to be moving in the right direction. If it can get past its extended growing pains, it'll be a contender someday.
Oninaki does a lot of things right. It has a compelling story and solid gameplay but doesn't take either far enough to reach the level of greatness.
Fight with crowds of enemies with slow progress through the levels over time gets boring. But the plot can hold you back. And although it is not a real revelation, it can offer several unexpected surprises.

Meditative action role-playing game with a very successful, thoughtful story, but stumbling block in the flow of the game.

We’d give Oninaki a recommendation to anybody who loves RPGs; although it isn’t the best, this is another solid showing from Tokyo RPG Factory.
While the combat initially feels flawed it ends up growing with the player, and the variety of customization options stands out in the best way. All in all, ONINAKI is an interesting effort with a good lifespan that deserves a close look.

Oninaki is a fairly traditional action RPG with intriguing characters. The price is a bit steep, but if you liked the studio's previous works, you won't be disappointed.
