Players are going to have to wait a bit longer for Cyberpunk 2077.

It has been announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed until September 17th. The game was originally meant to release on April 16th. The announcement was made by CD Projekt Red on Twitter.

"We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there's still work to be done," states CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski and head of studio Adam Badowski. "Night City is massive - full of stories , content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect. Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date. We're really looking forward to seeing you in Night City, thank you for your ongoing support!"

The multiplayer component of Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed as well. During a Q&A session with investors, the studio stated that the multiplayer component has been delayed past 2021.

"Given the expect release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and the series of events which we expect to occur after that stage, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for Cyberpunk multiplayer," stated SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski during the Q&A.

Despite the dalay, CD Projekt Red does seem confident on Cyberpunk's new release date. "We pretty much know where we stand, and which aspects of the game will still require work," stated Nowakowski. "We're confident the game will be released on the 17th of September."

Cyberpunk 2077's original April release date was announced at last year's' E3. It was during the event that it was also revealed that Keanu Reeves would play the part of Johnny Silverhand. The news that Cyberpunk has been delayed came soon after the news that Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvel's Avengers were delayed as well.
