Rumor: A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Project is in Development

A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic project may be in the works.

A recent rumor suggests that Knights of the Old Republic will be seeing a comeback. Cinelinx is claiming that two sources have told them that a game based off of the franchise is currently in development. Once source stats that a remake of the beloved game is in development, despite being shelved a few years ago. Cinelinx's second source says that the game will not be a remake of the classic, but rather a "sequel" of sorts. This project would integrate elements from the first two games in the series in order to bring certain things into the current Star Wars canon (which was rebooted when Disney bought the franchise). It would not be a remake, but more of a re-imagining.

Back in 2015, it was reported that a remake of Knights of the Old Republic was in development. However, in 2016, it was reported that the remake was put "on the back burner."

It would make sense for a Knights of the Old Republic project to be in the works. Last year, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated that the series is talked about often in the studio. While we do not know what platform these talks are focusing on, there have been rumors that a movie based on the beloved series could be in the works. If it is a game in development, a sequel would work, as it has been reported that Knights of the Old Republic was originally meant to be a trilogy.

The original Knights of the Old Republic released in 2003. The game released for the original Xbox and PC. The game is set 4,000 years before the Galactic Empire is established by Emperor Palpatine. The title shows the beginnings of a great battle between the Sith and the Jedi. A sequel was made that showed the aftermath of the war between the Sith and the Jedi.
