A new Gigantamax Pokemon will be making its way to Pokemon Sword and Shield this week, and will be available for all players to catch.
Starting on February 6th, players will have the chance to capture a Gigantamax Toxtricity in Max Raid battles. The Pokemon will show up in its Amped Form in Sword, while it will appear in its Low Key form in Shield. Toxtricity will use G-Max Stun Shock in place of its electric moves, which can deal damage as well as poison or paralyze its opponent. Gigantamax Toxtricity will show up in Max Raids until March 8th.
Gigantamax Toxtricity is not the only Max Raid event going on. Until February 6th, Sword players will have a higher chance of encountering a Gigantamax Coalossal and Flapple in Max Raids, while those playing Shield are more likely to encounter Gigantamax Lapras and Appletun. Milcery with the Gigantamax factor will also show up in Max Raids until February 16th. When the Milcery is defeated or captured, it will reward two new kinds of Sweets. Players will be able to use these to evolve Milcery into new flavors of Alcremie.
Last week it was announced that a new Mythical Pokemon will be revealed on February 27th, which is Pokemon Day in Japan. This Pokemon will be separate from Urshifu and Calyrex, the two Legendary Pokemon that will appear in the Sword and Shield's upcoming DLC. This new Mythical Pokemon will be the fourth to appear in Sword and Shield, after Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus. The new Mythical Pokemon will be making an appearance in the upcoming animated film, Pokemon the Movie: Coco. It is unknown if this new Pokemon will be a part of the upcoming DLC, or if it will be released separately in the same fashion as Gigantamax Toxtricity.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available for the Nintendo Switch. The first expansion for the games, Isle of Armor, will release in June. The second expansion, The Crown Tundra, will release in the fall.
