Nintendo Switch players will have to wait a bit longer to play The Outer Worlds.

The Switch version of The Outer Worlds has been delayed due to a breakout of the Coronavirus in China. Private Division, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, announced that the developers behind the port at Virtuos had to delay the project indefinitely to due the virus. The studio is based in Shanghai with satellite studios in Chengdu and Xian. While the team is safe and healthy, their office has been closed for the time being.

While it is unknown when The Outer Worlds will release on the Switch. It was announced during Take-Two's latest earnings report that the game will release in their fiscal year 2021. That would mean that the title would release sometime between April 1st 2020 to March 31st 2021. Due to the halt in progress, it has been announced that The Outer Worlds will now release on the Switch in both physical and digital formats. The game was originally supposed to be digital only, with the physical version being just the case with a download code inside.

This past December it was announced that The Outer Worlds would be receiving story DLC sometime this year. According to Social Media Manager Shyla, details would be made at a later date. The announcement was made soon after The Game Awards, where The Outer Worlds had a huge presence. The game had been nominated for a number of awards, including Best Narrative, Best Performance - Ashley Burch, and Game of the Year.

The Outer Worlds is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is unknown when the game will come to the Switch. The game was originally set to release on March 6th. It has been announced that the title has sold over 2 million copies thus far.
