A new Mythical Pokemon has been announced.

As a part of the Pokemon Day celebration, a new Mythical Pokemon has been revealed. The Pokemon is named Zarude, and will come to Pokemon Sword and Shield later this year. The Pokemon is a Grass / Dark type, and has the ability Leaf Guard. According to the Pokemon Company (via Polygon), Zarude "can grow vines from the back of its neck, its wrists, and the soles of its feet at will." These vines can wrap around tree branches to help Zarude move around, as well as grab berries. They also have healing properties.

Not much else is known about the new Mythical Pokemon. It will be exclusive to Sword and Shield. It is not known how Zarude will be introduced into the games, though the Pokemon will have a major part in the upcoming Pokemon movie Coco, which will release in Japan later this year.

A new Max Raid event has begun in Sword and Shield in order to celebrate Pokemon Day. Mewtwo will now appear in Max Raid dens, as well as the original starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The Mewtwo Raid is different from other Raids, as the Pokemon cannot be caught. There is good incentive to battle the Pokemon though, as players will receive fantastic awards for beating the Legendary. This includes Ability Capsules, which can change a Pokemon's ability. The battle will not be easy, as Mewtwo is level 100, and is incredibly fast and powerful. It can make up to four actions a turn, and knows a variety of moves. The starter Pokemon can be caught, and also reward players with special items. These Raids will last until March 1st.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is available now for the Nintendo Switch. The games have two expansions that will release later this year.
