HBO's The Last of Us has found its composer for its soundtrack, and it is a familiar name to fans of the game.

It has been revealed that Gustavo Santaolalla will write the music for TV adaptation of The Last of Us. Neil Druckmann, Vice President of Naughty Dog and co-creator for The Last of Us, announced the news on Twitter. He stated: "Well this is exciting! Beyond lending his incredible musical talent to The Last of Us Part II, Gustavo Santaolalla is joining us to bring over The Last of Us to HBO!"

Gustavo Santaolalla is the composer for The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II. He is a two-time Academy Award winner, having taken home the award for Best Original Score in 2006 and 2007 for Brokeback Mountain and Babel. The Last of Us and its sequel are the only video games that he has composed for. Santaolalla's work as a composer goes all the way back to 2000, including work on Netflix's Narcos: Mexico and the documentary Making a Murderer

Santaolalla is joining Craig Mazin and Druckmann for The Last of Us. The show is being led by Mazin, who is known for his work on HBO's critically acclaimed Chernobyl. Neil Druckmann will serve as the writer and executive producer for the show. Naughty Dog president Evan Wells and HBO producer Carolyn Strauss will also serve as producers for the TV series.

The announcement for a TV adaptation of The Last of Us came last week. No actual release date has been given at this moment, though HBO has stated that it will come "soon." The show will cover the events of the first game, though there is the possibility that it will also cover a segment of the second game in the series.

The Last of Us originally released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, and then on the PlayStation 4 a year later. The game's sequel, The Last of Us Part II, will release for the PlayStation 4 on May 29th.
