Knife-only runs will be possible in Resident Evil 3

In last year's Resident Evil 2, it was impossible to do a knife-only run, as knives would break after several uses. This was because knives were meant to be used defensively when zombies tried to bite the player. Thus, it was impossible to beat the game uses nothing but a knife.

That is going to change in the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 3. It has been announced that the knife in the game will not break, no matter how much players use it. This will allow those who want a challenge to do a knife-only run of the game.

"We kept the knife inexhaustible [in Resident Evil 3], so you can use it forever," states producer Peter Fabiano (via Game Informer). "We're dealing with survival horror and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use. So if you did run out of everything, what would you have? The knife. The director always wanted to make it so that you at least have your trusty knife. That's always something you can rely on."

Capcom did state that they are aware that some fans like to challenge themselves to a knife-only run. Thus, the studio has attempted knife-only runs. The studio says that while it is not easy, some members of the team have completed Resident Evil 3 with nothing but a knife.

A demo for Resident Evil 3 is currently available. The demo is not a one-shot like the Resident Evil 2 demo, and there is no time restriction. An open beta for the upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer mode Resident Evil Resistance will begin on March 27th.

Resident Evil 3 will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 3rd. The game will come with Resident Evil Resistance on disc.
