Grounded Will Be Playable Ahead of Launch for Xbox Insiders

Obsidian's survival game Grounded is coming to Xbox and PC in early access this July, but you can play it much sooner than that using one of two methods.

Members of the Xbox Insider program, which gives opt-in early access to future builds of the Xbox dashboard and other first-looks, will gain access to a limited-time trial of Grounded beginning on June 9, several weeks ahead of its July 28 Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview launch.

It's not just Xbox users that can play early either. Those on Steam can take part in the game's trial thanks to the upcoming Steam Game Festival, a demo-oriented event making a return since it first debuted last December during The Game Awards. The demo will be available from June 9-14.

Like before, Geoff Keighley has helped organize the Steam Game Festival, though the full lineup of playable demos has yet to be revealed. It's also been teased that Xbox will offer more timed demos akin to the Steam Game Festival, but we're still waiting to hear more about that. The demo for Grounded will be the same no matter the platform on which you play it.

Grounded was revealed at X019 last winter and comes from a small team of about a dozen people within Obsidian, who is expected to also be ramping up production on The Outer Worlds 2 as one of its upcoming major projects.

In Grounded, teams of four can team up and try to survive the harsh elements that arise when you're shrunk to a millimeter in size. Bugs, lawnmowers, and more stand in your way as you unravel a mystery about which honey shrunk the kids. It will release on Xbox and PC in an ongoing early access state on July 28.

If you're not yet an Xbox Insider, it's not too late to sign up here.
