Wholesome Games Direct Will Highlight 50+ Family-Friendly Games Next Week

Joining an ever-growing list of E3 replacement events, the popular Twitter brand Wholesome Games is hosting its own showcase next week. The show kicks off on the brand's YouTube channel on May 26 at 10 am Pacific.

The team at Wholesome Games has promised "exclusive footage, developer interviews, and announcements from over 50 wholesome indie games." So far, some of the games that have been teased include:

Spiritfarer: a "cozy" management sim about dying, where players ferry souls in the afterlife

Ooblets: the long in-development farm and life sim that combines elements like gardening from Animal Crossing and creature collection (but not fighting) of Pokemon.

Skatebird: an arcade skateboarding game that puts you not in the role of a skater with a bird name like Tony Hawk. Instead, you play an actual bird.

Little Witch in the Woods: a life sim where you play as a witch's apprentice.

These plus around 50 more games will be on the virtual stage for Wholesome Games beginning on May 26.

Wholesome Games was established in February 2019 on Twitter as a means to promote games that weren't focused on the typical tropes of gaming: violence, conflict, lots of guns - you know how it goes. Instead, Wholesome Games points out games more concerned with feelings and subject matter that doesn't tend to get brought up in AAA game design. The Twitter bio specifies that the page highlights games that are "cute, friendly, compassionate, [and] cozy."

We've added the Wholesome Games Direct to our calendar of summer gaming events. Check it out to see what else is coming up in a weird year without E3.
