Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 Delayed in Solidarity with Protesters

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare season 4 was scheduled to begin today, but it's been delayed by the developers in solidarity with the ongoing international protests. Call of Duty: Mobile season 7 has also been delayed for the same reason. There are no new dates for the updates just yet.

News of the delays came on Twitter last night, just hours before the update was set to go live. In a statement, Infinity Ward had this to say of the historic moment we find ourselves in:

"While we all look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time. We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates. Right now it's time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you."

The Call of Duty delay follows other prominent delays in the games industry as creators step aside to allow protesters voices be heard. Yesterday, a Madden NFL 21  reveal event was delayed until further notice, followed closely by Sony putting its PS5 games reveal event, once scheduled for June 4, on hold as well. In each case, the teams have stressed that they stand with the protesters and are choosing to wait for a more appropriate time to discuss video games.

It was never formally announced, but today seemed like it was intended to be the reveal day for EA's Star Wars Project Maverick, a much-rumored and even somewhat leaked game coming from the publisher and EA Motive. It seems highly unlikely that the team will still go on with any planned reveal today, though given that there was nothing yet announced in the first place outside of leaks, it's unlikely we'll hear anything else on the matter. Look for it to pop up later this summer, perhaps at next week's EA Play Live 2020 event.
