Ori and the Blind Forest doesn't add anything new to the genre of gaming that it was inspired by, but few other games can match the polished gameplay and humbling difficulty of this charming little fella.

9 / 10.0 - Nidhogg
Jan 15, 2014

Nidhogg is yet more proof that a simple concept with a simple goal can work, and work well. In a way, it reminds me of a Super Smash Brothers Melee tournament; simple combat and pure competition, that's what makes Nidhogg so amazing.

XCOM: Enemy Within takes an already excellent game and makes it bigger and better. The addition of Meld, Gene Mods, Cybersuits, and the EXALT faction creates a wholly new experience -- a must-have for fans of the core title.

9 / 10.0 - Bayonetta 2
Oct 13, 2014

Bayonetta 2 is something new blended with something familiar, improved in every way possible. Few other games can top it for sheer audacity and ballsiness, and if this is the last time we'll ever see the leggy witch, then she's going out with one hell of a bang.

I think the developers are on to something really special here, and if they properly end it off in the next and final episode, Life is Strange will stand as a giant in the genre. Now, all that's left is to wait for the finale, and what a long and gruelling wait it's going to be.

In the end it is still Call of Duty and if you aren't a fan of the run and gun mechanic then you are probably not going to be a big fan. However if you've ever enjoyed any Call of Duty game since World at War you are going to love this. Easily the best multiplayer I've experienced in years along with a strikingly unique single player campaign plus a bucket load of extras and a massive community to enjoy it with. You can't go wrong picking it up this year.

9 / 10.0 - Final Fantasy XV

A vast, emotional experience that offers many hours of gameplay. Would benefit from more storytelling in the actual game instead of outside media, as well as a few other minor tweaks, but still a fantastic journey that is lingering with me days after watching the credits roll.

9 / 10.0 - Quantum Break
Apr 1, 2016

Quantum Break is another example of Remedy Entertainment sticking to what they know, and doing it better than anyone else. An engrossing adventure with a captivating story. experimentation with new mediums for telling stories in games and refined third-person gameplay to match. Quantum Break isn't optional, it's essential.

Dark Souls 3 fires on all fronts providing equal measures of mystery and exhilaration. If this is truly the last Souls game then FromSoftware has ended this series off with a heck of a bang.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was an unforgettable experience and as a long-time fan, it was everything I could've hoped for. Terrible story pacing aside, this is a special game and a fitting end to an over decade-old saga.

Most importantly, it adds closure. There's no cheap set-up for a sneaky sequel, no cliffhanger ending. Just the door fittingly closing on a series of great – if unfortunate - adventures. While I wouldn't go so far as to call Uncharted 4 the greatest game that's ever been made, it is indeed a remarkable one, and undoubtedly the best the Uncharted series has to offer.

9 / 10.0 - Doom
May 17, 2016

DOOM is unrepentantly old school. It's gore porn to the max, a ballet of bullets and blood that I can't get enough of. Satisfyingly brutal, solid and most importantly, fun.

9 / 10.0 - Forza Horizon 4
Sep 25, 2018

Forza Horizon 4 isn't as surprising or inventive as the last one, but that's hardly a slight considering how good it was. Playground Games' latest sequel continues to shine as one of the best things on the Xbox One. It's beautiful to look at, it's fast and it's unbelievably fun. Forza Horizon 4 is a joyous, enthralling celebration of racing.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - while superfluous - makes a near-perfect game even better. If you haven't played it, now is the perfect time - and even if you have, it's worth revisiting.

9 / 10.0 - Ratchet & Clank

This new, reimagined Ratchet and Clank is the superb return of the esteemed series. It's not a simple case of style over substance. Ratchet and Clank plays as good as it looks making it an absolutely easy recommendation.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the best game in the series by far, sporting some welcomed additions and improvements. Ultimately though, whatever complaints there are are minor, as this is probably one of the deepest games you'll find on the system and one that will have you playing for hundreds of hours.
