An old school RPG that falls short of its ambitions in both story and gameplay.
Frustratingly repetitive gameplay makes this a disappointing follow-up to last year's action RPG by Gust.
Despite its interesting premise, Dark Rose Valkyrie is hard to recommend.
Offering little excitement and interest, The Caligula Effect is easily skippable.
I'm not sure what to feel about The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered. I don't really mind the game's minimalist approach to narrative, but the dungeon design, repetitive battles, and difficulty walls I hit made it hard to press on.
Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story is something most would now term a "cozy game", being a light simulation game that's largely relaxing and not too stressful. Its gameplay and story can feel pretty mediocre, reminding me of childhood favorites but never as entertaining.
The case of Detective Pikachu has never been fully closed, but now Detective Pikachu Returns, this time to the Nintendo Switch. I enjoyed my time with Detective Pikachu Returns, nonetheless, Detective Pikachu Returns just isn't a very good game.
A disappointing game adaptation for one of the best Dragon Quest spin-off series that possesses major structural and gameplay shortcomings.
While there are admirable aspects about Arcadian Atlas on a conceptual level, several usability issues and an imbalanced gameplay experience merely makes it mediocre.
FuRyu returns with another RPG that tries to evoke the nostalgia of the classics of yesteryear, but Trinity Trigger's good music and character art cannot salvage a dull RPG that is middling at best, and broken at worst.
Tales of Symphonia is a beloved classic of Bandai Namco's Tales series, but this latest version is a disappointing mess of issues, play a different port instead.
Monochrome Mobius is a solid first attempt at a JRPG from Aquaplus, but falters due to a number of plot, pacing and user interface concerns.
For a game that places so much weight on its cast and writing , Digimon Survive struggles to engage with poor characterization and weak storytelling.
Despite all its charm, The Cruel King and the Great Hero is hard to recommend.
Astria Ascending is not a great JRPG. I would hesitate to label it a good one. In a year of winners, it's not a complete outlier but it's no contemporary classic. Despite a few flirtations with intrigue, the story is generally vacant of anything compelling enough to stick around until the credits. Poor writing compounds the problem and unlikable characters can't overcome it. Gameplay ranges from strong to stale, with just enough gumption and innovation to keep things lively. Pound for pound and for all its pedigree, this is a disappointing experience I'm not inclined to recommend.
Earthblood's satisfying combat can't quite make up for its constant repetition, boring characters and short run-time.
Cold Steel IV finally ends the "Phantasmal Blaze Plan" arc for the series after nearly a decade, for better or worse.
Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition's uniquely cozy atmosphere and charming story can't save it from feeling significantly more lonely this time around.
Some faithful Fairy Tail presentation is let down by rushed storytelling, unbalanced combat, and tedious gameplay.
An average dungeon crawler that doesn't stand out.
