10 / 10.0 - Dice Legacy
Sep 10, 2021

Not going to lie, this is one of my favourite games I’ve played in a long while. The concept of Dice Legacy is presented in a clean, crisp, and beautiful fashion. It combines strategy, survival, city building, roguelite elements, and the depth of politics and knowledge trees without being overly complex. At the same time, it is challenging enough to have you starting a new game not because you have to, but because you want to try something different. Honestly, I’m likely going to pick this up on the Switch to be able to take it with me wherever I go. The polish, gameplay, and style make Dice Legacy deserving of Thumb Culture’s Platinum Award.

This is by far my favourite escape room styled VR game. The humour used throughout the game keeps you smiling even through various deaths. You need no prior knowledge of the franchise however both games are worth picking up if you haven’t already. It is comfortable to play for all experience levels and leaves you frantically searching for the next clue. I highly recommend this game Therefore I award I Expect You To Die 2 a Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

My Final Thought is that LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on the Nintendo Switch is an absolute must for not just fans of the Lego franchise but for the Marvel Universe as well. This game was an absolute blast to play. I could quite easily play through the whole game again because it is just that good. Please do yourself a favor and pick this game up. You will not be disappointed. So it is with great pleasure to give LEGO Marvel Super Heroes the Thumb Culture Platinum Award. It truly deserves it.

10 / 10.0 - Far Cry 6
Oct 22, 2021

People will complain that it's just another Far Cry game and it's the same as all the rest. Well, the clue is in the title mate! If you like Far Cry games, you will LOVE Far Cry 6. If you don't like them, then don't buy the game. It's that simple and it doesn't give you the right to complain about them. I don't like avocados, so I don't eat them. That way I don't complain about them. Same thing. Anyway, the game is bloody brilliant so go and buy it now! The story is engaging throughout with a few twists. If you spot warning signs early on, it will keep you guessing and the twist will sometimes hit you when you least expect it. If you like explosive gameplay, great casting, and a vast world to explore then Far Cry 6 is a must. We have a winner of the Thumb Culture Platinum Award!

10 / 10.0 - Nuclear Blaze
Oct 22, 2021

Even though Nuclear Blaze is a short game, it is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game and the challenge it gave me at certain points. Congratulations to Sébastien at Deepnight Games for creating such a masterpiece as the debut game from his new studio. I will leave you with the reveal trailer below and of course, Nuclear Blaze has earned the highly deserved Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water is just what horror games need right now. Zombies are such an oversaturated idea and they are everywhere. So it is nice to have something truly scary in a paranormal survival horror. It is a great game to introduce new fans to the series who possibly weren’t even born when it came out. Though controls are a bit finicky, it is very unique and stands out well in a slew of subpar horrors that rarely even raise a whimper, let alone have you losing sleep at night. The drab setting, story, lore, and atmosphere created would fit snuggly amongst other J-horror media. With jump scares here and there, it’s the subtle ones that got to me. What you think you saw, you did not see…or did you? If it raises my heart rate a little, that’s a good thing because horror doesn’t usually get to me. A job well done! Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water gets a Thumb Culture Platinum Award from me!

Sir Brante is an excellent narrative-driven RPG delivering an engaging story in a richly detailed world. The game does stack the deck against you but hopefully, wise choices see you through it. Being played in the pages of a book paints a picture in your mind including some black and white landscapes too

Unbound: Worlds Apart left me pleasantly surprised, featuring some of the most gloriously designed gameplay mechanics I’ve ever experienced in a game. It will hook you in with its finely balanced challenge and dares you to come back for more.

From picking up ForeVR Darts to now, I have no doubt that this game will be staying in my library. From the fun lobbies, to the games and even the environment you are surrounded by. This all makes up one hell of an experience.

We don’t need reminding of how good Naughty Dog is at their craft but playing through The Lost Legacy in Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection has renewed my excitement for what’s to come from them in the future.

Bungie seems to have Destiny 2 where it belongs and that is in the heart of true Destiny fans. It’s been a long road but personally, I think it was worth the wait. This DLC is great, funny and compelling

Overcooked! All You Can Eat has so much to offer to gamers. It’s the game to pick up when you want some solo gaming, it’s the game to pick up with friends and family. It is the game for literally any occasion. The amount of fun and laughter this game brings is unreal. Whether you are working as a team or fumbling with your frying pan. Keeping calm is the only way you are going to get your three stars. From picking up, to playing what Overcooked! All You Can Eat has to offer, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit. I am not going to lie, at times it was extremely stressful. However, this is a game that is staying installed and I will be looking to the rest of the team for some online multiplayer kitchen chaos. I award Overcooked! All You Can Eat a Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

Well. I have spent a long time sucking up waste, constructing buildings, taming animals and collecting resources. I love it. The level design is great and the hands-on tutorial at the start gets you into the gameplay from the off. I found myself just feeling really calm with an almighty sense of achievement as I clear the rubbish to reveal a beautiful untainted natural countryside. Well done Chicken Launcher, No Place Like Home bags a Thumb Culture Platinum Award!

My final thought towards WWE 2K22 is that the difference between this one and the previous instalments is night and day. Each game mode is great and it always pushes you towards that one last game. It is every wrestling fan’ dream come true from making matches like The Rock and The Undertaker to dream matches like The Big Boss Man and Rey Mysterio. You owe yourself as not just a fan of the WWE franchise but as a game so that’s why I’m going to give WWE 2K22 the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

Ghostwire: Tokyo ticks all the boxes for me. An enjoyable action-adventure with a captivating story and a beautiful location. The gameplay is crisp and clean which has no doubt benefitted from the extra-time Tango Gameworks had following the delay in release from 2021. PlayStation owners are now left wondering what the future holds as Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo were the only confirmed exclusives left. Bethesda themselves, now part of Microsoft, have stated that future availability will be determined “case by case.“. It is a superb closure to the known situation and I am sure Xbox owners will get their chances to play when the exclusivity deal finishes. It is for this reason that Ghostwire: Tokyo gets the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

For a one-man studio, Radiangames has really come up with a fun and creative game that just captivates me. I have an engineering background but seriously, who doesn’t love smashing up buildings?! Even my four year old sat with me driving one of our homemade machines into buildings. It appeals to everyone.

I can say with utter sincerity that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the BEST LEGO game I have ever played. The humour, the sheer amount of things to do, and its relevance to the source material are second to none.

I have nothing but praise for this game. Even with the omission of a mini-map, it is mitigated with the rewind feature. I had fun playing ‘Spot the Sonic Reference’ when driving on courses aswell.
