3 / 10 - Beast Quest
May 6, 2018

It’s hard to figure out whether Beast Quest was unfinished, underfunded or just accepted at this level of quality. If it was ported form mobile, as I suspect it was, than many of these errors become clear as by-products of a poor transfer. But even for strong fans of the series I would advise you not to bother. There are plenty of better adventure games to give yourself.

3 / 10 - Rugby 18
Dec 11, 2017

. Truly, my personal feeling is that it is simply not ready for sale at all. The game has some merits, and if this were an early working version of the final product I would certainly have focused much more heavily on those. As it stands, gamers are going to be disappointed if they part with real world money to play Rugby 18. Sorry rugby fans; I’d stick to Rugby Challenge for now if I was you. I think we are going to have to wait around for the next good one.

If you like the previous 4 games I will have to trust your recommendation as I do not know how this game relates to the others. But this is not a game I will be recommending to anyone. This is not a series worth new investment. It is at best incomplete and at worst an embarrassment of a game in its current state. Tohou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is an unnecessary game, a game which is not worth getting.

No doubt this game is a good idea. Hunting illnesses in a body definitely appeals, but all the execution does is ruin that idea, miss-stepping over basic FPS rules and laws and ending up with something that misses the mark entirely.

While Enchanted Portals has some gorgeous art and animation to look at, it simply fails at the bits that really matter: gameplay and design. The shooting is tiresome, the randomised levels go on for too long and the lack of a more efficient saving system is just criminal. While the game is relatively short if you persevere, whether or not you’d want to is another matter entirely.

A Terrible Pun (that’s me!)

NOT WORTH IT! No matter how much this game is sold, I honestly can’t find any reason to recommend it to anyone. I didn’t have high expectations, to begin with but honestly, I didn’t expect the game to be this terrible. And in case you’re wondering its $39.99 which is better spent on a game that actually gives you a good amount of fun than frustrations considering the game stutters way too much and at times becomes a headache when it actually freezes to a halt before you’re forced to close the application.

4 / 10 - Extinction
Apr 18, 2018

Overall, Extinction gets a 4/10, it is a good attempt at trying something new in gaming, but sadly that something new is picked from a monopolised genre of titans. Gameplay is chunky, the soundtrack is samey, levels are repetitive alongside the combat with skill progression feeling unrewarding.

Overall Fear Effect Sedna gets a 4/10, it is fun in some areas with in-depth and difficult puzzles. Combat becomes too annoying in the later sections with party management becoming a hassle due to the mechanics. You cannot customise your character enough, or even stick to a certain playstyle as the game will swap between sneaking, action and puzzles.

4 / 10 - Demon Gaze II
Dec 22, 2017

Demon Gaze 2 is probably a nice time on the Vita. On the PS4 it is very much not so. It is the video game equivalent of eating junk food when you’re not hungry. If I run out of other games I will play it again. But for now I’m putting it down and picking another orphan of the PS Vita exodus.

All in all, if I had not been given Night of Azure 2 I would not have sought it out. It is not a positive example of a Japanese game in any sense. I would say give it a try if you have nothing else and disposable coin but because I have both this is not something I would recommend.

Cars 3: Driven To Win is ultimately another disappointing movie-tie to add to the increasing pile. Though it reaches beyond the very lows that this genre subset has ever sunk, the game is still far from being a wholly worthwhile experience. At its very best the game is just okay, and at its worse it is tedious and boring.

Asterix & Obelix: Heroes delivers pockets of excitement and nostalgia amongst its flaws. The sound design effectively pulls players back into the wonderful world of Gaul, while the character design authentically captures the spirit of the comic book series. However, the lack of innovation in the level design and repetitive mechanics overshadow these positive elements, preventing Asterix & Obelix Heroes from realising its full potential. With a stronger level design that encourages exploration and offers more varied challenges, Asterix & Obelix Heroes could have been a standout entry for these beloved characters.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 single-player campaign does blow me away and feels like a rushed attempt at finishing the trilogy. What showed signs of promise in the lead-up to release with Vladimir Makarov making a return, I was excited to see what Sledgehammer Games had done. However, it instead ends up being a lackluster attempt to relive the glory days from twelve years ago. Some story missions had moments of enjoyment but it’s attempted to introduce new open combat missions designed as an interesting premise but doesn’t work when you put it into the campaign.

Overall The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon gets a 5/10, sitting at around the same quality as the previous DLC. It is too short for the price tag and contains little to add into the original game, feeling like more of a patch or free update. Nothing new is added, besides some new dialogue and 2 small locations and carries with it the same amount of bugs as the base game. It does incorporate some more dice and alchemy into the experience, but it feels overall rushed and under polished. I would only recommend you get this DLC on offer.

PAUL LAURELES

Overall, it’s a game that borrows heavily on nostalgia and caters to kids and their parents who’ve watched the show or just want to play with their kids. Considering there is no online mode, they have no choice but to invite friends over or play with the family. It’s a clone of a game that i’ll hide in the name of Kario Mart but falls short and failed to introduce new mechanics that could improve the genre. Motion controls is a bit of a hit or miss like auto-accelerate. It’s probably there for kids but not advisable for drifting as it’s clunky and at times hard to initiate.

5 / 10 - Pilot Sports
Nov 8, 2018

Pilot Sports came in with a great idea… relive an old classic but it fell short to hit its mark. For a current generation game, it doesn’t feel worth the outrageous price of $29.99 for the PlayStation 4 version. It borrowed so much on nostalgia to pick itself up that it never really tried to stray away from the original and bring something new to the table with more aircrafts to learn and master. The difficulty hurdles during singleplayer progression, however, give for a rewarding feeling as you set your eyes to be the top of the leaderboards yet it comes off as more of a “buzz off” to newcomers and casual players alike.

After such a strong start it’s difficult not to be a little mift with Hide and Seek, an episode that seemed to have disregarded everything that made its predecessor so enjoyable. Instead of in-depth and revealing confrontation, I was given almost meaningless exposition and mindless chatter, and before I could say “cool, a juicy murder!” it was back to overly complicated puzzles within an already tiresome story.

A TERRIBLE PUN (THAT’S ME!)

Verdict… do I really still need to repeat everything? I think not! So let’s just take this time to talk about replay value. This one in particular is saved for last so we could end on a positive note because I’m not trying to pick a fight here “Akko!” So when it comes to the game’s replay value I find it good because of infinite dungeons and PVP mode, while I never had the opportunity to try the PVP mode, it will be one thing that people may or may not go for but despite all that it’s one feature that could be enjoyed one way or the other.

All in all, Football Manager Touch is a game of two halves. In the first 45 minutes, you have a wonderfully complex game made from years of development and evolution. In the second, you have a painfully underbaked port missing many of the most interesting features of recent entries, and that’s a big disappointment.

Perhaps not your average indie, but not quite on the same level as Little Nightmares or ABZU.
