The Invincible is a great game that more people should play. The storytelling delves into the philosophical at numerous points and it’s a game that will stay with you for a long time to come. It may be a bit frustrating to deal with the slow movement and the lack of actual fast-paced action gameplay but if you’re into slow-burn storytelling, this game will appeal to you.

Star Ocean The Second Story R left me with mixed feelings. It started with a visually impressive 3D game intro and continued with stunning 3D environments, albeit with pixelated characters and monsters, which made me wonder about the design choices. However, these visuals didn’t detract from the excellent story, engaging combat and emotional impact the game delivered.

‘Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express’ was the game that I didn’t know I needed right now in a time of flops and day one disappointments.

9 / 10 - Dungeons 4
Nov 30, 2023

Dungeons 4 is an absurd game but in a very good way. It’s goofy nature and humorous narration complete the package for me more than the actual progression and RTS gameplay though. But don’t get me wrong, those things are good and honestly, they are engaging enough that even without its silliness and fourth-wall-breaking antics, I would still have fun getting slogged down on each of its campaign scenarios.

9 / 10 - CRYMACHINA
Nov 29, 2023

Crymachina is a charming JRPG title that has quite a lot of polish. It’s certainly a step above some of the other FuRyu Corporation titles out there. Yes, there’s a layer of jank to the game but it’s remarkably enjoyable. The cast of characters are all likeable and grow on you as you play and there’s enough humour mixed in too to keep things fresh despite the dark themes present in the game. Give this game a try if you’re a fan of JRPGs with simplistic battle systems and a focus on storytelling. Chances are you will really enjoy it! Crymachina therefore gets a solid recommendation from me.

9 / 10 - Fort Solis
Sep 5, 2023

Overall ‘Fort Solis’ is an incredibly immersive cinematic experience that dares to push the boundaries in ways that some would not take kindly to, while others will see it for what it truly is trying to achieve. While it is short, clocking in at just over 5 hours, it is an experience that will leave a lasting impression on your mind.

Overall Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is an excellent single player game. It’s over in around 8 hours or slightly more depending on your playstyle and speed. There is a tad bit extra longevity for completionists who will have to reload specific chapters to get all the collectible murals and lore entries. This is a game that I can highly recommend. Riot Forge and Tequila Works have created an instant classic and a worthy addition to the League of Legends franchise series of games.

9 / 10 - Jusant
Dec 12, 2023

Jusant is an enthralling, enrapturing, calming game that feels akin to meditation. Its simple gameplay and open-ended story, along with some truly stunning visuals create an experience that is like nothing else I’ve played this year. The journey to the heavens is nearly perfect and you should take it.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown doesn’t reinvent the Metroidvania wheel, but it does make the mechanics entirely its own. You can pick up all of the inspirations, but it never feels like anything less than its own thing and is a perfect fit for the Prince of Persia franchise. Ubisoft has started off 2024 with a fantastic, must-play game that is, not only, one of their best games but also one of this year’s best. If this is the future of the Prince of Persia franchise, well then, could I please have some more?

Moonstone Island is a nice change of pace with its enjoyable farming and creature collecting. It was no surprise that I sunk many hours into it and still was eager to play more. It was one of those games where you are like “I’ll just do this then I’ll come off” but you end up spending a couple more hours on it. The art style was another selling point for me as I love these sorts of games, the card-based combat was interesting and worked well for me and I loved being able to collect spirits and look after them.

Overall ‘The Lord Of The Rings Return To Moria’ completely took me by surprise and exceeded my expectations. Not being the biggest fan of survival crafting games I found myself losing time by becoming immersed in the world created for me. It’s an absolute joy to play and feels so authentic to the world of ‘The Lord Of The Rings’.

Death Road to Canada brings the good and the bad to the Nintendo Switch. Once again we see a 2D title that has great music with fun and engaging gameplay. On the other hand we get screwed by RNG on a near-perfect run and lose the want to play another round. Depends on how you look at it.

8 / 10 - Nioh
Jan 19, 2018

I enjoyed my time with Nioh, especially after playing it co-op with a friend of mine who is a fan of dark souls so we had a good time messing around with the game. The combat is fun, the weapons all have a unique feel backed up by a deep skill system and souls-like stat building to replicate that comfort zone of dark souls but with more dex weapons over strength.

Overall a simplistic game for some mindless fun that contains a robust modulation system and completely open source API for the community to use, the developer has even held Modding competitions since it’s release. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this little run n gun shooter and will likely return if any new mod pops up that interests me.

Wolfenstien 2 is not a bad game. It’s a great game but there are a couple of things that are bringing it down at least for me. The gunplay is fast, fun and satisfying. Visually the game can be stunning but doesn’t take it where I feel it should go and makes more things drab over colourful but that may change for later sections of the game if and when I get there.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is a terrific game and Konami have definitely scored a cracker here. It may not have the shine, the names, or the good commentary that FIFA has, but the challenging, rewarding and impressive tweaks to the AI and gameplay really do make PES2018 the most realistic and enjoyable football games on the market right now.

Overall, The Evil Within 2 is a huge turn around from its original outing and for some, they will love all the changes, and for some, they will hate it, for me though it was a great outing in a horrific world, that I certainly would not like to visit anytime soon.

Just like in the first Battlefront game in 2015 it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the graphical side of things. Naboo, looks stunning, Starkiller base from The Force Awakens look practically identical and when moving round the maps you get a sense of “I’ve seen this place before” or “this is the part in the film where…”. You can tell that a lot of effort has been put into making the levels really stand out and like the locations they are taken from.

Call Of Duty: WW2, then, is in truth a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s survived thanks to the continued strength of the core multiplayer framework and the surprising spin on its Nazi Zombies offering which work hand-in-hand to balance out the dreadfully uninteresting campaign. Successfully revitalising historical-shooters much in the same way as EA’s Battlefield 1 did only a year prior, WW2’s purer gameplay is a welcome alternative to what came previously.

Overall, this action RPG is just up my street. Everything I want from an anime based series, familiar and charming characters, new roster of characters to engage with, old but new lands to explore and a solid combat system that is pretty simple to grasp.
