Guerrilla Games really went all out when developer Horizon Forbidden West and it shows, pushing the standard in animation and natural conversations along with open-world design and world-building. Horizon Forbidden West is a monumental exceptional adventure and it would be criminal to miss out on it.
Dead Space Remake isn't simply a remake; it's a whole new experience. It's the perfect example of the horror genre at its finest. EA Motive showed to be capable, and they did a great job, adding to and improving the game without interfering too much with the gameplay or the plot. It's undoubtedly the most refined and improved version of one of the most terrifying games ever created.
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is overall a great experience and a must-play for those who did get to play the prequel. The game is as good as the first and builds upon what the other set out. There are far more gameplay aspects to the game, such as RNG, pickups, and upgrades, but at its core, it is still just Turnip Boy. The game never rushes you, and it never overstays its welcome. Its jokes are funny, witty, and self-aware, and the gameplay is an addictive loop that will keep you occupied for its entire runtime.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is yet another masterpiece from Don't Nod, with a captivating story, stunning visuals, and even voice acting to help drive the nail home. This game is definitely worthy of the title, and even though it has that one slight issue during the initial start, it's nothing when you compare it to the experience you're in for as you take on the role of a Banisher in a land plagued by ghosts. Another thing to note is the replayability when you consider the two paths at the start and how they affect the entire story as you progress, possibly making Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden a game that might build a fun little cult-style fandom.
Asobo Studios has successfully created an authentic version of history and delivered it through a brilliant tale in A Plague Tale: Innocence.
Child of Light came on the radar with high anticipation, and it doesn’t fail to deliver. It isn’t necessarily the type of release gamers expect from Ubisoft, as they are renowned for making blockbuster titles.
NBA 2K17, in my honest opinion, is the undisputed greatest sports simulation game. The slight gameplay kinks and exploits are part of the greatness in the sense that they allow for interesting and unpredictable gameplay.
Well-documented leaks muddied initial opinions of The Last of Us Part II by now, but with the benefit of time, it is easy to see why it won so many awards four years ago, and it will stand the test of time as one of the greatest games ever made. The parallel storyline, risky payoff, immaculate soundtrack, and iconic performances, now remastered and with more meaningful content than ever, will always be there for us when we wish to relive a harrowingly told tale as old as time.
Square Enix has a habit of developing highly anticipated titles for decades, with Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III taking 10+ years to complete. Like Noctis' adventure, Sora's venture was worth the wait. Providing an epic journey through diverse worlds with amazing boss battles, Kingdom Hearts III rarely stumbles in its 40-hour journey. The long cutscenes and the lock-on system can become frustrating but these are minor issues for this masterpiece. Kingdom Hearts III may have taken over 14 years to release but it was well worth the wait.
NieR: Automata is a true masterpiece that shines throughout, and a must play for all PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One owners.
God of War is an amazing masterpiece that you won't soon forget.
Marvel's Spider-Man rarely has a disappointing moment. Right from the beginning a combination of high-speed action and outstanding writing creates a harmonious adventure that combines action, story-telling, and graphics for a near-perfect experience. The optional objectives can be a bit repetitive but Marvel's Spider-Man is a superhero game that rivals the excellency of the Batman: Arkham games.
The deadly universe of Streets of Rage 4 is simultaneously completely fresh and very recognizable at the same time, making it a blast to play through.
Slicing to the beat anywhere you want is an incredible time.
Sucker Punch brought us the colorful charming world of Sly Cooper and the dark superhero adventures of inFamous. Ghost of Tsushima is a radical shift for this studio in atmosphere and gameplay while using what the studio has learned from their past projects to deliver one of the best games this generation. A beautiful samurai adventure teeming with optional adventures as you drive the Mongols from 13th century Japan. Yes, it has minor faults that often break up the action during critical moments and the platforming doesn’t carry the same precision as past Sucker Punch titles but these are tiny holes in this outstanding adventure. Ghost of Tsushima takes the player on an epic samurai odyssey that everyone should play.
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is everything you could ever hope for from a fighting game.
Insomniac Games constantly delivers on memorable adventures and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is no different, reaffirming why this studio is one of the best in the business.
Psychonauts 2 has been a long time coming and was well worth the wait. An outstanding action platformer that captures the magic of the original while improving on many of its core features. Double Fine has done an outstanding job of remaining true to the original while modernizing certain aspects to better complement changing tastes. Psychonauts 2 is simply brilliant and one of the best games of 2021.
