Optimally it's best played in handheld, but no matter how you play it, the gameplay is rock solid. Additionally, the way it treats baseball history with the Storylines mode is incredible. Now if only the video wasn't so compressed and I didn't have to worry about the game or server crashing at any point.

MLB The Show 24 might be, in theory, more of the same if you’ve been playing all previous iterations of the game, but the handful of inclusions in this particular version were enough to justify its existence. Its Storylines mode impressed the hell out of me, not only with how detailed it managed to tell Derek Jeter’s career, but with how it managed to educate (and educate at the same time) someone not into the sport with all the importance behind the Negro Leagues. Add in the good presentation and excellent gameplay, and what you have here is more of the same, but also more of the GOOD same.

MLB The Show 24 continues to push the genre forward – not every choice is a homerun, but it has enough hits for another all-star appearance.

MLB The Show 24 tweaks an already sturdy foundation, with new defensive animations bringing the biggest change to gameplay. Its success as a compelling package largely stems from its single player additions, with the documentary-like Storylines mode starring Derek Jeter accompanying the second season of the outstanding Negro Leagues. The addition of female athletes to Road to the Show is sure to inspire an entire generation, while foundational favourites like Franchise and Diamond Dynasty remain at the top of their game, despite their underlying familiarity.

San Diego Studio focused on a few primary additions for MLB The Show 24. Adding two Storylines and the way this was produced and the pacing of the gameplay opens the door for the future. These docu-series without taxing gameplay that provide rewards will keep players occupied early, on top of learning about baseball history that includes one of the greatest dynasties of all time. Other changes to Road to the Show and Franchise are noticeable at the surface level, but the experience of both remains unchanged. The same goes into the other modes that are here. The game still feels dated, but the addition of more animations and the emotion that's felt from individual player's faces animations help with upping the experience of each game played.

MLB The Show 24 continues the upgrades we witnessed in last year’s great title, and it had to take a lot to accomplish that. With the additions and enhancements, this is easily the most authentic Baseball game in the franchise. Plus, it provides equally outstanding experiences for both men and women players. And yet again, to sweeten the pot, it’s available on Xbox Game Pass. So, go ahead and get this puppy, and let’s play ball.

With just enough added to keep things fresh, MLB The Show 24 is a fine entry to the yearly sports franchise.

MLB The Show 24 is a wonderfully curated sports sim that has made some great improvements to the defensive game. The Storylines are great fun, and Road to the Show is another great way to experience the ball game.

MLB The Show 24 is a game that continues to deliver. From emotional history from Story Lines to the new amazing inclusion of Women into The Show. While this may seem like small new additions now, these ripples now have the potential to create large waves into the future. Young girls finding, or strengthening their love of baseball in this game, seeing themselves as MLB stars growing up and forcing baseball to evolve and change for the better. While I may have slight issues with the the visuals not being on the same level as the game play or game modes, it is still one of the best looking sports sims on the market and the best looking baseball game hands down. The Show 24 impresses more than disappoints and is another winning season for PlayStation and San Diego Studios.

While not exempt from some unpolished elements, MLB The Show 24 manages to bring forth a great baseball experience with the potential of bringing new players to the table with addicting gameplay and a variety of modes.

MLB The Show 24 is one of the strongest entries SDS has put out in this console generation. Storylines and Road To The Show's updates rejuvenate the franchise's single-player offerings, giving players a reason to come back each day and get a few swings in. Diamond Dynasty's changes are also a step in the right direction, though it will take time to see if SDS' new format works in the long run. While The Show is well overdue for a more substantial facelift, its rewarding gameplay makes that shortcoming an afterthought. When all's said and done, MLB The Show 24 is undoubtedly one of the series' best, and a great sign for the future.

MLB The Show 24 does not do anything innovative but what it does do is great. Baseball fans will be able to live out their dreams, both as a player and making their favourite team a dynasty. The Storylines mode is a great history lesson focusing on players that would not be showcased otherwise, while new players will find themselves in familiar game modes from other sports games to orient themselves with. While there is nothing particularly new with the game, it is a fun and informative package that is accessible to all, even those without a good knowledge of baseball who want to learn about its early beginnings or its more recent stars. Those who aren't interested in history have enough other ways to play the game and still get entertainment out of it.

There’s more than enough here for almost every baseball fan to find something they enjoy, which is ultimately the goal. Not everyone’s going to love Road to the Show, but they’ll like something else. Not all of MLB The Show 24 is good, but there is a love and respect for baseball present. It’s not a home run, but it is a solid hit.

Is the best baseball experience to date and far surpasses its predecessors, making it a must-buy for enthusiasts of this sport and can be considered a great alternative for players who want to venture into the genre, since it is about a title that can be enjoyed alone or together with other friends thanks to its varied game modes and an extremely graphic and simple interface that allows quick access and a brief explanation of the mode in which it will be played.

MLB The Show 24 doesn't fix what isn't broken with its gameplay, and it complements its consistently stellar on-field gameplay with new content meant to honor baseball's history and the people that make the game what it is today.

All in all, MLB The Show 24 continues to swing for the fences as the best representation of the sport in video game form, and save for a few misses, it always delivers. The outstanding gameplay is enhanced with an elevated presentation in all of the modes, and the storytelling in Storylines is a big draw for those wanting to embrace the game's roots and pay homage to the legends from yesteryear. While Diamond Dynasty can be an acquired taste, and the inclusion of Derek Jeter may not appeal to all, these missteps hardly take the shine of the gem that is MLB The Show 24, and it's time to play ball.

MLB The Show 24 offers a slightly more complete experience than recent releases, with the addition of an all-female chapter for its career mode. And the Storylines mode offers even more content than before, mixing the real and virtual worlds. This is clearly the direction in which the SIE San Diego team needs to move in order to maximise the variety of the experience. For its part, the modification of defensive phases is interesting, but remains rather timid. Not to mention that the classic modes offer very little that's new. My main recommendation is for those who may have missed out on last year's edition.

The bottom line is more or less the same as it is every year: if you skipped a year or two it’s a good place to jump back in; if you played last year’s edition your mileage will vary depending on how important it is to you that you get a new season of storylines, plus the ability to create a female player. Nothing in MLB The Show 24 achieves the same comparative highs of the franchise during its glory years from a decade ago, but it’s undeniably a very outing.

Speaking in purely numerical terms, MLB The Show 24 could almost be called 23 1/2. The novelties present are more quantitative than qualitative, with a game structure that follows the path of the past edition without the slightest deviation. What has changed is mainly the content, among which the excellent second season dedicated to the Negro League and the section starring Derek Jeter stand out. Not much to report about Road To The Show, Franchise and Diamond Dynasty, which remain on discrete/good levels without the addition of particular extras that impact considerably on the gaming experience. No particular flaws in the technical sector, which would however need some cleaning and global modernization, with particular attention to the players' models.
