Paper Mario: The Origami King is as advertised above, a brooding yet charming affair that brings the collector in us along for a colourful ride through a kingdom gone foldingly mad.

In the end, I thought Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was two things: a triumphant return to form for Infinity Ward, but also a return to safety and sameness in at least two of the three pillars. Multiplayer, while solid and highly replayable, is fraught with deja vu and I have concerns that some of the OP, built-in gun perks will devolve this into pay-to-win.

7.5 / 10.0 - INSIDE
Jul 1, 2016

You’ll get roughly four hours out of the game, and there’re a couple of hidden things to find throughout for Achievement and Trophy hunters. But it’s hard to establish the thought of replayability -- each puzzle you pass is a hardwired solution, meaning the thought of going back and just finishing something you already know how to do is hollow in exercise.

Oh, but it does have multiplayer, which is arguably the meatiest gameplay component of the game, and should extend the life of the product beyond the single-player campaign.

Evolve deserves its time in consumer hands and is a game that should not be so easily forgotten, but it does need some work to regain momentum.

7.6 / 10.0 - NBA 2K21

But if you're like me, playing every year, then know this: NBA 2K21 is the best basketball game around, but it's also the only one. And as any high-level competitor will tell you, that's never a good thing for long.

Which is to say, colourful and challenging writing exists within the confines of this archaic setting, so you might hear antiquated dialogue or come across situations that make you uncomfortable.

7.8 / 10.0 - Echo Generation
Oct 21, 2021

If the game’s pacing, its toolsets and some of the missed opportunities mentioned throughout this review were in place, the score here would be much higher. Even with rose-tinted glasses on as someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I can’t bring myself to overlook Echo Generation’s glaring pitfalls, which is a shame because it nails nostalgia and reference and feels. It’s just a slog to pull those things out of it, and then some. Still, I see a bright future for this studio and the potential for this as a series moving forward, because there’s a lot to build on here. It also begins life on the right voxel foot as a Game Pass offering, so those pitfalls immediately just become the grind they are with very little money handed over on your part.

We've seen how this can be implemented with <b>Ubisoft</b>'s brilliant &#x201C;Discovery Tour&#x201D; mode for both Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey -- an interactive journey through history; fact and myth alike, where you control the information available to you, and dive in as deep as <i>you</i> like.

This fledgling developer-publisher is on the right path to making a nostalgia-based name for itself if it stays this course.

7.9 / 10.0 - Maneater
May 22, 2020

The whole thing is amplified through its presentation, which takes cues from <b>Shark Week</b> documentaries, <b>Deadliest Catch</b> and <b>Dirty Jobs</b> (as described to us by the devs themselves), only in hyper satirical form, lead by narrator <b>Chris Parnell</b> (<b>Archer</b>, <b>Rick and Morty</b>) in what is meant to be a *sort of* episodic docuseries format.

7.9 / 10.0 - Gears 5

I played the first Gears of War, and right now, Gears 5 has barely changed the flavour of the original. And while the original might have been a revelation, Gears 5 presents as a detriment.

7.9 / 10.0 - Gears of War 4
Oct 24, 2016

[Gears of War 4] takes positive and familiar themes from the first game and dresses them up in modernity and pretends it’s an entirely new, and fresh start. So it’s not bad, but it’s not groundbreaking either. However, with Horde mode and multiplayer, as well as cross-platform play, there’s enough value here for anyone looking for a decent co-operative experience full of big guns, big explosions and big violence and gore.

7.9 / 10.0 - Dead Rising 3
Dec 3, 2013

From a technical standpoint, Dead Rising 3 is not the pinnacle of how a next-gen game should look (or perform), but from an expanded gameplay perspective, and one of pure fun, it's my favourite launch title among the lot. Hopefully we see a patch or two over the coming weeks to attempt to fix some of the mechanical problems with the game.

If themes exist across these games -- the first being Mushroom Kingdom focused, and the second Donkey Kong, then Sparks of Hope is a riff on the Super Mario Galaxy games as it features the Lumas of those games, only they're now Rabbidified and called Sparks, as well as some planet-hopping for differential fun and a broad spectrum of environments to play within.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human will divide fans, as the first game did. With that there’s no question, but for mine it is an incredibly rewarding game that has the best parkour ever seen or experienced in games, and the playground to match it. Plus the zombies. So many (awesome) zombies. On Hard I still found it a little on the easy side, but the length and depth of missions and the world more than made up for it. And if you let the game bite you, as I did, it’ll grab and transform you for more than the next little while.
