Jed Whitaker's Reviews

Jed Whitaker aka Dr. Dinosexual aka Sexy Jed Whitaker (SJW for short) likes to use the entire review scale liberally.

Yet, I can't stress enough how much I loved The Call of Starseed, it hit all the right spots for me. The story feels like the dark adventure films of the '80s and '90s, the voicework is great, and the immersion is unmatched. If you've got an HTC Vive and can spare the $30, do yourself a favor and buy this game, you won't regret it. Those holding out for PS VR and Oculus Touch are in luck as well, as The Gallery is planned to release for those too.

A beautiful yet bleak platformer that deals with serious topics while staying lighthearted, On Rusty Trails is easy to recommend for fans of platformers. If Pixar made a platformer, this would be it.

With 21 different locations to hunt, tons of monster both new and old, heap-loads of armor and weapons to unlock, playable cats, and completely new ways to play with your favorite weapons, Monster Hunter Generations is the pinnacle game in the series and a must-buy for anyone looking for a solid multiplayer action RPG on the 3DS, even hunting monsters solo is a blast. Just be sure to pick up a Circle Pad or Circle Pad Pro if you don't have one of the NEW 3DS lines, as controlling the camera with touch isn't great. Trust me, you won't regret it and they run for around $12 on Amazon these days.

If you're looking for a puzzle game that will make you both laugh and jump, I can easily recommend Please, Don't Touch Anything, even if you've played the original. For $15, you get hours of gameplay in a polished experience, which is a steal compared to most of the other expensive titles on the Oculus Store.

9 / 10.0 - Monolith
Jun 7, 2017

Monolith might sound like a million other indie games on Steam, but I just found that is a perfect goulash of cute, fun, challenging, and addictive. I've been doing run after run with no hesitation, back to back, over and over; and I'm still not tired of it.

Tiny Barbarian DX may look like just another indie platformer on the surface, but it is so much more than that.

9 / 10.0 - DJMAX RESPECT
Mar 16, 2018

DJMax Respect is easily the hardest music game I've ever played but is also the most jam-packed with songs right on the disc and plenty of content to unlock. While it doesn't feature household named like Aerosmith or other lesser rock bands, it has a little something for everyone.

River City Ransom: Underground was worth the wait, and hopefully we don't have to wait nearly three decades for the next one. The look, feel, and humor of the original is here with a new in-depth fighting system that feels fresh yet familiar while being deeper than basically every other game in the genre.

8.5 / 10.0 - Flinthook
Apr 18, 2017

Flinthook is a fine video game that sunk its hooks into me with easy to pick up and play gameplay, a catchy soundtrack, and cute characters. It's easily a recommendable rogue-lite for any fans of the genre or platformers in general. Just don't expect the game to anchor you to your seat unless you're the kind of person that needs to uncover every piece of treasure possible. Even if you aren't, Flinthook is a dandy game, in space.
