I highly recommend Blasphemous 2 to any Metroidvania fan. It's a great sequel with snappy, satisfying combat and movement, great exploration and a heavy, brutal and memorable world.

Blasphemous 2 felt incredibly good to play despite its challenging nature and complex combat. It's a great Soulslike 2D action-platformer that doesn't rely on nonsense gimmicks that make the game artificially difficult for the sake of being punishing. Its exploration, art direction, and worldbuilding are unmatched in a sea of modern Metroidvanias released in 2023. If you're down for a good challenge or path of penitence in a Roman Catholic-inspired 2D platformer, look no further. Like it or not, you will pay for your gameplay sins.

Blasphemous II would have always had big shoes to fill. It would always have to have been ambitious. When I think back to the 20+ hours I’ve already spent in this game, I can wholeheartedly say the successor to Blasphemous is bigger than the boots it needed to fill. The ambition, rather than stifling the developers, has led them to produce a game of such exquisite quality that it is easily one of the best games of 2023.

All in all, Blasphemous 2 is a great game of this style... I hope –like the sculptor Montañés– that The Game Kitchen gets to further hone their latest title. There is an amazing game here that’s just shrouded in a thin veil of sawdust. An extra chip here, a little more varnish there, and Blasphemous 2 will captivate many for years to come like its elder.

Blasphemous 2 scratched an itch I didn’t even realize I had, I am not a fan of soulsbourne games, but I think I AM a fan of roguelikes, especially this one that took the best parts from the metroidvania genre and expertly weaved with the ‘Souls’ type combat. Boasting a strange and evocative narrative that is presented with beautifully painted and animated cutscenes that look like works of art hanging in the Louvre, Blasphemous 2 is itself a work of art.

It could just be that I’m masochistic and want some of the unreasonable difficulty present in the previous game to return, though. Even if it doesn’t scratch the itch the previous game placed in me, I do recommend Blasphemous 2, possibly more than the first one, as it’s a very polished and enjoyable experience.

The Game Kitchen demonstrates a more mature and thoughtful approach in this sequel, which is, in almost every way, more fun and exciting than the original.

2023 has been a banner year for games, and it’s clear that Blasphemous 2 sits in the upper echelons of those releases, a beautifully grotesque Metroidvania that’s deserving of everyone's time. From the gloriously gruesome visuals to its ferociously paced combat and beautiful soundtrack, Blasphemous 2 is an instant classic in the genre.

Blasphemous 2 is the absolute consecration of The Game Kitchen as true master craftsmen. The game created by the Sevillian studio embodies the total communion between artistic and technical quality. A work to remember.

Very minor issues aside, I think that Blasphemous II is an absolutely fantastic and challenging addition to the list of Metroidvania titles that exist, and the majority of fans of the first game are going to adore this. I know I do.

If you’re a fan of 2D Metroidvania and Souls-like games, Blasphemous 2 is a must-play. It has the best of both worlds while crafting a unique identity that expands and improves on the original Blasphemous in every way. If you just want a damn good side-scrolling action game, it’s a must-play. If you’re a fan of dark fantasy, Spanish art and architecture, religious commentary, or anything macabre… it’s also a must-play. I’ll keep this simple: It’s a must-play.

To conclude, Blasphemous 2 is an improvement on the first in every respect. Animations and pixel art are superb, while supporting worldbuilding. Technically, there's nothing to complain about, the game doesn't slow down and I didn't encounter any bugs during my test. Apart from a few hiccups in terms of pacing, both in terms of platforming and combat, inequalities in the quality of the bosses and its frankly superficial narrative despite an interesting world, Blasphemous 2 is worth a detour for fans of the genre and of the first. And not just in small doses!

'Blasphemous 2' stands out with its surreal art direction and eccentric imagination. The map design unfolds through epic boss battles and a gradually expanding world. The introduction of three new weapons adds depth to the gameplay action, while exploration and challenges contribute to its excellence within the realm of modern metroidvania.
