All things considered though, I prefer the Wii original as-is because of its simplicity. Even with a lot of the new content being optional or avoidable, the loss of screen real estate on the handheld and the Wii’s seamless multiplayer being left out on 3DS makes this only the second best yarn based Kirby game you can play. And that’s still a compliment.

In case you haven't played the game on the Wii, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is one of the titles you should add to your library at any cost.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is a very charming platformer filled with vibrant colours and characters made of yarn. The addition of a Devilish mode adds a new layer of challenge for players that want some consequence in their Kirby experience. Unfortunately the co-op mode from the original game has been stripped out but there’s still so much charm packed into this experience that Kirby fans will still get a kick out of. It’s a game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages.

It's a bit paradoxical to think that the weakest point of a remake are the newest features, but that's the case with Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn: the new abilities break that perfect balance of the original game. Fortunately, that game is still there and if you want you can appreciate it exactly as it was conceived.

Although this is not Nintendo's best enhanced port for 3DS, Kirby Extra Epic Yarn is a fun and cute platformer, which addresses the major complaint about the original, the difficulty. Still, we would have liked to see the coop even in this version.

It’s easy to look at Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn and still see the same whimsically inventive game Nintendo and Good-Feel gave us nearly nine years ago. The cherished basic formula is still there and it’s as charming as ever. Most of the new content only adds to what is otherwise a fantastic experience

Still a good game, but as a port it could have done better in terms of keeping the original game's spirit alive.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn may be a bit forging for die-hard platforming fans, but it still manages to offer a fun adventure for gamers of all ages. While minor control issues hold that game back from the greatness typically associated with Nintendo platformers, its more laid back approach and focus on straight-forward fun is the perfect entry point for those new to the genre.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is a solid 3DS port that both builds upon and takes away from the original Wii title's charm.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn brings back the unique, stringy platforming of the Wii original and then some, adding new mini-games and a harder difficulty mode to boot. Unfortunately, it also takes out the original's excellent co-op mode, which will be a bummer for folks who are hoping to play the game with friends and family once more. It's not a deal breaker, especially for folks who don't have interest in multiplayer. For people like me who had a blast with co-op in the Wii version, however, it just makes this rendition feel a little bit less epic.

One of the best Kirby games becomes frayed around the edges on the 3DS, with no co-op mode and some poorly thought out extras that would be better off left out.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn is not that "Extra" after all, but Patch Land is still a place worth visiting.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn has a great game tucked away inside. But the time that has passed since the original and the extra additions tarnish the experience we fondly remember.

While Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn lives up to its name in delivering the original experience with something more, it doesn't truly stand out as the biggest and best version of Kirby's fabric-styled adventure.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn has proven to be an ambiguous port of one of Nintendo's best platformers on the aging 3DS. Technical limitations do not allow you to fully enjoy the graphic splendor and physics, and the lack of co-op can disappoint some fans. Mini-games with new characters and the ability to take the game with you a little smooth experience, so if you missed the Wii version and want to play on 3DS, you can try to catch up in a convenient portable format.

Eight years after the original Wii version, this Extra Epic Yarn comes back on the old 3DS console, with a new diabolical mode which brings ' tiny bit of challenge to an overall very easy game. Its two new mini-games might be now enough to bring back the players of 2010, especially with a lower frame rate and no 3D effects at all. Still, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn still is a good platformer and might satisfy 3DS owners.

While essentially the structure is the same there are a few differences when it comes to Kirby's moves and the co-op component is no longer available, but nonetheless, the experience is largely similar: this is a very simple game, with a difficulty level that does not require too much from the players and it should be seen as something to relax, rather than to compete over. This is both its strong and weak point, as many players will not feel attracted by its philosophy, while others will eagerly welcome it.

This game looks good and is nice to play but why has this game been released on 3DS? It would have been a better idea to release it on Switch (with coop support).

There's enough on display here that, if you were a big fan of Kirby's Epic Yarn, you could get at least get a couple more hours of entertainment out of it. However, assuming you're not a big fan, than I would suggest waiting for something with a bit more substance to come out, which should be around Metroid Prime 4's release.
