MMOGames's Reviews

What Blackrock Mountain brings to Hearthstone is a memorable experience, but not much in terms of actual card value. Many of the cards obtained in the adventure are incredibly situational and most likely aren't going to see much play. There was, however, a lot of thought and effort put into designing the boss encounters, and it also allows for some interesting deck constructions in the arena mode.

8.9 / 10.0 - PlanetSide 2
Jun 30, 2015

The game is an appealing blend of shooter and RPG, and it offers some truly unique opportunities to participate in some really large-scale battles. If I were a little better at shooters or I had a larger group of interested friends, then PlanetSide 2 would definitely be a game I would like to try out on my Playstation 4.

9.5 / 10.0 - Splatoon

Great style, refreshing gameplay, and lots of small, frequent updates, even if Nintendo's still squashing communication and hasn't learned everything about options and standard practices that make other online games successful.

8 / 10.0 - The Park
Oct 31, 2015

It's a short experience but if I had to score it out of ten I'd give it a solid 8 purely for the tension I felt throughout. It's strange that something so inspired by and owing so much to The Secret World actually suffers slightly from being linked to it instead of standing alone, in the dark.

World of Warships is fast paced and fun, and the graphics are quite pretty; the water effects in particular are stunning. My only complaints are little ones; the length of time it takes to get ships past tier 3 or 4 being chief among them. It's fun, it's free, it's multiplayer, with PvP and PvE modes, and it is pretty. What else could we ask for?

7.5 / 10.0 - Block N Load
Dec 8, 2015

Ultimately, the game is best taken at face value. I'm sure someone somewhere will have tried to make this game as efficient as possible, and in a few cases there were matches where the usual online FPS player behaviors sprung their ragequitting, derivative-slinging heads. However, the gameplay moves just right to make this sort of thing easy to ignore, and finding fun ways to pull together and get a spectacular win or an embarrassing loss is the ultimate reason to play.

7 / 10.0 - Devilian
Dec 17, 2015

Devilian is a game that will most likely split people into a hate and love camp, with a few in the middle persons. It is a great mix of MMO and ARPG taking the standard questing and dungeons system from MMOs and fast paced gameplay from ARPGs. While the questing design do need a full makeover, the gameplay manages to keep the quest design from brining the game down. I will continue playing Devilian and hope that microtransactions manages to mainly keep on the cosmetic level. Being a free to play game I would recommend players whom like ARPG to give Devilian a try, it might be something you get hooked on.

Fatshark took a property and an idea and made something glorious out of them. Games Workshop appears to be giving out licenses for everything. For every Mordheim there's been a Snotling Fling. Any company, any property would be lucky to have a game as lovingly and wonderfully designed and put together as Vermintide. It is easily for me the jewel in the Warhammer gaming crown above Space Marine, Eternal Crusade and Dawn of War. If Fatshark didn't innovate further, that may never change. With their plans for the game, I think it's certain that it never will.

So when It comes down to it, is the game fun? I think it is, but I do have some concerns over the micro transactions.

8.5 / 10.0 - Black Desert Online
Mar 17, 2016

It combines high-quality textures, voice acting (albeit not that great), action combat, an expansive world and open-ended leveling with a major focus on player interaction. Instead of trying to reinvent the MMO, Black Desert Online has focused on things that work for other games and it puts a fresh spin on them.

The Division is taking the best aspects from many other MMORPGs and cover-based shooters out there and adding its own touch to it. This is a game that you can play how you want to play it. It is an instanced third-person shooter with a great progression system. Whether you are a loot seeker, a role-player, or a story fanatic, you will enjoy this game. This is not the new Destiny that so many comments seem to be about, but it also isn't the next major MMO. The Division stands great on its own legs and borrows ideas from vastly different genres and games, which it transforms into its own in the end.

7 / 10.0 - Quantum Break
Apr 12, 2016

Quantum Break is pretty much the game that it looks to be according to the trailers. It is a very solid cover-shooter with a story that is confusing and by far the least interesting one in Remedy's portfolio, but it still holds a high standard with many interesting plot points. It is a game you should and even must play on the Xbox One since the PC version is not acceptable in any way. The best part of Quantum Break is how well it works together with the built in TV-show, and that is bound to give you a unique and interesting experience.

If you’re looking for a good time sink game, this is the game for you. The value is much higher than anything you’ll get from playing most other games solo, especially if you’re a Zelda fan.

5 / 10.0 - Star Fox Zero
May 11, 2016

I hate giving such a low score to a game inspired by a childhood favorite, in a genre that tends to excite me, that tried to bring innovation and immersion to a generally simple genre. However, the fact remains that the game is divisive at the least. I can't imagine a non-gamer being able to appreciate this game, and gamers have already shown that not all of them can appreciate this title. Had it not been Nintendo or Star Fox, I feel the design choices alone would have doomed this title.

9 / 10.0 - Star Fox Guard
May 12, 2016

Star Fox Guard may not be a new main entry in the series, or even a fellow rail shooter, but it’s got heart, effective design, and “one more try” gameplay. It mostly matches it’s dollar value, not for a Nintendo game, but for a game in general.

9.5 / 10.0 - Doom
May 17, 2016

Doom is back and it's better than ever. It's a rage and adrenaline fueled murder fest that won't challenge your perception of what is possible in a game, but it'll help to reinforce the belief that maybe, just maybe gaming has a future that doesn't involve quick time events and pointless cut scenes.
