At first 'Monster Hunter Generations' seems like a rehash of past games, but some play time will show that it is one of the most innovative in the series. The sheer amount of experimentation, adventures, and general fun to be had with this game is boundless.

Hollow Knight is a charming, atmospheric effort which takes the Metroidvania style of games to new heights, evolving its inspiration to a experience that's simply a lot of fun to play. It's brutally difficult at times, perfect for those who love a good challenge nad dislike hand-holding, and its various strategic elements bring in a lot of variety. Hollow Knight's aim is on-point, and then some.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can hardly be called a mere re-release. The substantial amount of additional content coupled with the obvious superiority of the Switch creates a brand new experience almost worthy of being called its own game. A beautiful fighting game with an incredible depth to the mechanics. Stylish, compelling, and above all fun, 'Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2' hits all the right marks. The depth of the content and tutorials allow both seasoned fighting game veterans and those completely new to the genre to dive in to the world of Guilty Gear.

What Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and Pagoda West Games have accomplished is nothing short of breathtaking, and it most certainly steers the Sonic franchise back on course. Now, we can only cross our fingers that both the flawless quality and overwhelming success of Sonic Mania will result in a series of future franchise entries within this style.
