Gamer Escape's Reviews

While the issues I had do hold the game back from a perfect score, Apocalypse is a game that JRPG fans, and even just 3DS owners, should not pass up. The depth in story and gameplay is incredible, and the accessability options can let anyone dive in, newbie or veteran.

I went into this review with rather low expectations, and wound up with a title that I would recommend highly to any owner of a PS4.

9 / 10 - Xanadu Next
Nov 3, 2016

For fans of Falcom’s works, dungeon crawlers, action RPGs, or just anyone looking for a new addiction, I can’t recommend Xanadu Next highly enough.

NieR: Automata admirably manages to transition from cult favorite to mainstream title without becoming over-ambitious...I would call this Taro’s masterpiece, but it’s practically his AAA debut, so let’s not go jinxing it.

These are minor grievances, though, as the overall package is definitely a game that needs to be played. The fact that it is a free release further enforces that point.

The entire A/V presentation, mixed with solid and tight gameplay, create easily one of the most addictive games I’ve played lately.

This remaster is definitely the way Final Fantasy XII is meant to be played. If you've already played the original to death, there's enough changes and improvements here to warrant your time and money. If you've never experienced the twelfth numbered title in this series, now would be the greatest time to finally jump in.

If you're a series fan, and still have a strong stomach, Danganronpa V3 can't come any more highly recommended. If you haven't experienced the franchise yet, now's the time to jump in…but start with the first game.

9 / 10 - Yakuza Kiwami
Aug 31, 2017

I really can't recommend this title enough. It may not hit as high as Zero did, but it does a damned fine job modernizing a game that fans fell in love with a decade ago. Tack that on with a budget price and an abundance of gameplay, and you'll be finding yourself among the ranks of Yakuza fans, as I have.

Despite the complaints, I can easily see Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana going down as a modern classic of the genre. The sense of wonder the game offers during exploration, the beautiful artistic presentation, and the just plain solid and fun gameplay make this a title that you absolutely should not pass up.

On its own, though, Zwei is still a beautifully crafted game and an addictive dungeon crawler. If you’re looking for something a bit more light-hearted to dive into after the more serious big releases coming out this time of year, this game would be right up your alley.

This game was a delight to play, and if you’re looking for something decidedly new and unique to play, you will definitely want to give Hand of Fate 2 a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Having said that, however, the game’s 60 levels will likely take you many hours to complete, and is a thoroughly fun experience well worth the $14.99 price tag. As a certain song and this section title goes, it’s hard to overstate my satisfaction. This game is sure to please almost everyone in its target audience and I highly recommend it.

9 / 10 - DJMAX RESPECT

Aside from a handful of “eh” songs and the seemingly frivolous Arcade mode, I’d almost go so far as to call this the perfect rhythm game for home console.

Some minor issues aside, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology was immensely fun to play, and I found myself having trouble putting it down. While the new additions may not be worth a $40 price tag on their own if you’re already familiar with the original, if you happened to miss out on it before, do yourself a favor and pick this up.

Between the fresh story and a cast of characters that felt well-fleshed out with their sometimes whimsical sometimes serious dialogue, I was able to get lost in The Alliance Alive in a way I haven’t in ages. A good mix of past and present is found here, redrawing pieces of stories we’ve seen before and twisting them enough to make something that felt brand new.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux takes a classic game model, polishes it up to a mirror shine, and stuffs it full of things to collect and complete for those of us who love to tick off boxes. An extensive RPG with in-depth mechanics and a wonderfully dark storyline. The only downsides I can really find are that it can be a little grindy at times, and some of the mechanics can be a little obtuse at times, especially demon fusion.

9 / 10 - Hitman 2
Nov 22, 2018

Overall, Hitman 2 is an incredible game marred by the inclusion of a confusing and hollow story. However, the story is definitely not necessary to get enjoyment out of this title. The way the game is built allows practically anyone to have a great time executing stages and targets in their own way.
