MEDIOCRE - Star Horizon is a pretty standard on-rails shooter set in space. Basic gameplay and an extremely lenient auto-targeting system make for a fairly dull experience. Visuals, voice overs, and graphics are pretty decent here, but overall there’s much to be desired.
MEDIOCRE - If you like shooters and are really looking for something to play, flip a coin. Galaxy Warfighter’s lack of a solid soundtrack and its repetitiveness make for a dull experience that only the most desperate of SHMUP fans should seek out.
MEDIOCRE - BurgerTime Party is a mediocre introduction of the series to a new generation. The core gameplay remains the same, but everything else just hurts the experience. Lackluster level designs, content stretched to the point of tedium, undercooked multiplayer modes, and terribly unappealing aesthetics contribute to its downfall. As a budget title, this wouldn’t be so bad, but at the asking price of $20 you’re best off playing the original game.
MEDIOCRE - A farming sim adventure on a deserted archipelago certainly has a great ring to it, and the setting is ripe for a lot of exploration, discovery, and some clever mechanics. Stranded Sails however falls a bit short in nearly every department. A heavy over-use of a convoluted cooking mechanic and other issues prevented the game from reaching that addictive quality that is required for games like these.
MEDIOCRE - Undead’s Building is a neat and quirky concept that just wasn’t taken far enough. The gameplay gets stale fast, and the lack of content doesn’t help that. There are some charming aspects, but this one needed more development time to become something truly special.
MEDIOCRE - Ultrawings ports over a VR flight game to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately the developers didn’t tweak the controls to fit the platform, so there are some odd gameplay elements. A lack of a map means you’ll really have to enjoy your time flying over large swaths of water to reach possible destinations. Only a few event types means a redundant experience pretty early on. Flying felt good and respective of the different aircraft, but with only 4 total planes to use and lengthy unlock requirements to get them, there’s just not the right balance to make this games soar.
MEDIOCRE - If you’re already a fan of Legacy Wars on mobile and absolutely need more of it in your life, this will definitely satisfy. Its limited features and lack of any real progression however, make it a hard pass for anyone outside that audience. There is a ridiculously good fighting game at its core, but it is suffering from a significant lack of polish in virtually every other department. An iconic name like Power Rangers deserves a far better console outing than this, and hopefully Hasbro wises up to this before they do something even crazier like try to port their mobile Diablo clone Power Rangers All-Stars.
MEDIOCRE - Bombfest is a physics-based brawler that, while visually cute, falls short of bringing much in the way of strategic gameplay, coming off far more random in outcomes than desired. There’s a lot of content that can be unlocked which is wonderful, but when it comes to new bombs, they just don’t stand out as meaningful, resulting in more of a bland execution than desired.
MEDIOCRE - Gear.Club Unlimited 2 attempted to make a console sequel from a mobile game but didn’t put in enough effort to do so. The game looks beautiful, and there is a hefty amount of content to unlock. But the heavy controls, unbearable loading times, and overall mobile feel of the game ruin what could have been an amazing experience. Oh, and it’s way too expensive for what you get.
Although one of the games is quite fun to play, the other is an exercise in frustration that drags down the entire collection. If they are sold separately in the future, purchase Midnight Shadows, as it’s the best one of the two. Otherwise wait for a sale before checking the collection out.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers had so much potential, but in the end, it turned out to be yet another Shovelware failure. While the game has a lot more tracks than you’d expect, the overall package is a disappointment for both diehard Nickelodeon fans, and for casual players. If you or your kids are huge fans of the IP then it might be worth waiting for a price cut.
Tied Together offers such a neat gimmick, but fails in its execution. There are over 60 levels that will put you and your friends to the test, but anyone expecting some nice variety of replay value will be sorely disappointed. While I had some fun playing this game, that’s due to the people I played with rather than the quality of the game. Save your $15 for something else.
A Gummy’s Life fails to bring the gummy fiction to life on almost all counts apart from the characters. With no combat feedback and UI, punches and kicks felt non-impacting and lifeless in the physics brawling. While the game is fun for a few minutes at times, a lack of progression or goals keeps this title on a very short lifeline. The MSRP of $14.99 just feels too steep for this game’s offerings.
Fans of the series will no doubt find a lot to like here. As a newcomer I found many of the gameplay systems to be lacking, the story boring, and just couldn’t get into it. There are plenty of other NIS America RPGs to enjoy on the Switch (Ys VIII and Disgaea 5 Complete to name a few) instead of this one.
MEDIOCRE - Blood Waves might satisfy some zombie aficionados, but most gamers have seen and played better games in this genre. The lack of polish, tedious grinding, and high difficulty make this game an easy one to pass up. For the $10 price it’s not horrible, but with so many other great games near the same price point, it’s hard to recommend this one.
Yuso is a mediocre puzzle game that did very little to keep me hooked. The game lacks that “just one more turn” aspect needed for a puzzle game to be considered a classic. Some will probably find some redeeming qualities here, but there are way better puzzle games to consider before purchasing this one.
An excellent game filled with all the things to love about video games. Cool characters, great music, sweet story, and graphics that fit the game perfectly. It’s just too bad that the difficulty spike absolutely killed the experience for me. I don’t rage quit very many games, but when I do… a controller usually dies a horrifying and disturbing death. Don’t worry. No controllers were harmed in the process of this review.
With a cast of characters that are forgettable and challenging gameplay that punishes you with load times and long waits between game over screen to starting at the last check point, I would steer clear of this title unless you are a fan of the previous titles. I believe there are gamers out there who are more forgiving of these things than I am, but I couldn’t recommend it to someone without outlining the frustrations I had.
recommend this game to anyone, yet at the price of five bucks I can’t say that you’re not getting your money’s worth. Sometimes you really do get what you paid for.
Brawlhalla is a decent attempt at a free-to-play fighting game, though it leaves much to be desired. There’s some fun to be had with the offline modes, but nothing stands out enough that would make you want to spend actual money on the game.
