6 / 10.0 - Immortal Planet
Aug 6, 2017

Really, Immortal Planet is mostly a game for Souls fans that just cannot get enough of FromSoftware's particular brand of action. While it could also work as an introduction to the series proper, what with its short length, Immortal Planet doesn't bring enough new to the table to really justify a purchase for anyone not already familiar with the Souls series. That it starts to recycle content in such a short time frame is also a crime, even if the combat can be engaging.

Were it not for the successful conversion of the multiplayer mode for this port, I would have rated this game lower. Even without an active player base, though, the prospect of getting friends involved for a night of classic fragging is really tantalizing. Hopefully more people get this in the future, because letting these crazy weapons go to waste is a damn shame.

I really hope that Turn 10 takes an honest look at what these prize crates have done to Forza, since the game is otherwise solid. I would have an easier time accepting some flaws if I could make honest progress in the career mode or have a chance in hell of acquiring the cars in a reasonable amount of time. Instead, Forza 7 just makes me think of how much time I'll be wasting and what else I could be doing instead of racing on Spa for the 90th time.

6 / 10.0 - Mr. Shifty
Apr 12, 2017

While the combat may have some depth and the game is certainly tongue-in-cheek, it just doesn’t present enough new ideas to sustain itself. I think it’s worth a playthrough, but I don’t believe we’ll be talking about Mr. Shitfy for years to come. Just as quickly as Shifty himself enters and leaves a room, so too does this game enter and exit your mind.

Dragon Ball Fusions is basically for the fans only. If you’re a dedicated follower of Akira Toriyama’s work, then you’ll find a lot to enjoy with this title. It takes some risks and offers a complete compendium of characters from each installment of the anime. It also puts an emphasis on creativity with the fusion system, but lacks focus. I want to love it, but I can’t fathom sitting through that story again.

Seeing as how even the online modes have weird time limits or aren't fully ready, Gran Turismo Sport is honestly not worth looking into at the moment. Maybe this will mature into a better racing game in the future (much like Driveclub), but you can presently get so much better on PS4 that I'm not sure why GT Sport wasn't delayed to add some more content. The ulta realism isn't enough to justify the cuts done to the core GT gameplay of the past.

Lost Paradise has something to offer for fans of Yakuza and Fist of the North Star, but it never reaches the full potential of its source material. With some more time in the oven, this could have been a game for the ages.

Guilty Gear Strive is another solid addition to the long-running series, but certain concessions make the overall package feel lacking.

6.5 / 10.0 - Dirt Rally 2.0
Feb 26, 2019

DiRT Rally 2.0 might be the best-feeling racer Codemasters has ever produced, but it most definitely is not the best iteration of this long-running series.

Maybe I'm not as entranced by Sonic the Hedgehog as I used to be, but I can't knock what is a faithful port of Sonic's debut.

6.5 / 10.0 - Unravel Two
Jun 13, 2018

I don't regret having played this, but I do wish it was better. I love playing co-op games and I was excited by the idea of this minimalist platformer giving me an experience to bond over. Sadly, we both we pretty much in agreement on the final outcome. Unravel Two just doesn't quite have what it takes to be special.

6.5 / 10.0 - Unworthy
Jun 23, 2018

The fusion of Dark Souls with metroidvania is something that can certainly lead to a great title. Unworthy falls just a bit short. Not much can be done about the level design, but a few key tweaks to item management and difficulty balancing could lead to this becoming a hidden gem. If nothing else, it scratches the itch for more Souls that From has left.

As for whether or not you should grab Rad Rodgers: World One, I’d say give it a go. It may not be the second coming of retro gaming or an outright classic, but it does still have the potential. If Interceptor Entertainment can make this a success, I have a feeling that the eventual World Two and beyond will iron out all of the bugs and turn this adventure into a must play for old-school fans.

Ultimately, though, I'm just not as smitten with Electronic Super Joy 2 as I was with the first. The free price tag makes this a lot more palatable, but I do believe more could have been done here. It's a little disappointing, but still a fun time that fans of the first are sure to get something out of. Just don't go in expecting anything dramatically different.

Star Allies is a respectable entry in the Kirby legacy, but it isn't likely to be held up as one of the better entries. Maybe with some more content, I'd be warmer to the whole experience, but I did have fun and definitely appreciate Nintendo making yet another co-op platformer I can enjoy with my family.

70 / 100 - Road Redemption
Oct 7, 2017

This may not be the best classic revival around, but Road Redemption is a lot of fun with a pretty well implemented roguelike system. The inclusion of multiplayer is also sure to make this a great party game for some likeminded friends.

70 / 100 - Puzzle Dating
Sep 16, 2017

For $1, I cannot be too harsh on Puzzle Dating. It doesn't offer a lot of content and it mostly exists as a joke, but it's fun and cute enough to get by on charm alone.

While Mages of Mystralia might not live up to its full potential, the game has some charm and is fun enough to be worth a look. The $20 price tag is also pretty solid.

70 / 100 - OVIVO

OVIVO may be a bit artsy for some people, but the game is relatively short and always throwing something new your way. Even if it doesn't leave a lasting impression, the game is good while it lasts.

7 / 10.0 - Emily is Away <3
Apr 17, 2021

There are areas where things can improve in the future and I do feel the story is maybe not as malleable as it could have been, but that doesn’t ruin what is another solid and emotional story of teenage love and angst set to the backdrop of early internet communication. If you have any memories of this era, you’re bound to find something to appreciate about Emily is Away <3. Just beware that you may end up smashing your head against the wall as you relive some of the stupid mistakes you made in your youth.
