Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a spiritual sequel to Jet Set Radio and makes it clear from the first moment. They have managed to achieve all the defining elements of the Sega title, the aesthetics, the music, in a certain way the playability, although it is a little missed that they have taken a little more risk with the game. In short, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a totally recommendable game, both for those who enjoyed Jet Set Radio in their day and for the general public, the game has a lot of flow and very good vibes.

While it wears its inspiration on its sleeve, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk manages to evoke a style all its own with its always-stylish REP. For those pining for days gone by – or for those looking for something funky and fresh – be sure to hit the streets of New Amsterdam.

All the pieces come together in the end: the design, the story, and the gameplay. Despite brief hurdles with the combat sections this is one of my favorite games of 2023. I actually hope Team Reptile makes a sequel that fixes the combat and maybe changes up how bikes, boards, and skates play a bit because this game was so much fun to play. I went from having no interest in this game to being absolutely enveloped by it. I bought it for a friend. Forget Jet Set, go Bomb Rush.

An excellent unofficial sequel to the classic Jet Set Radio games and a smart evolution and modernization of the formula to better fit modern sensitivities and to offer more variety. Sure, the story could have been better and maybe Team Reptile could have swayed farther from Jet Set Radio… but this is exactly the game fans of the franchise want and deserve.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a hell of a mic drop. While it’s no reinvention of the wheel, it’s definitely a more compelling and accessible take on the formula that has a lot to recommend it, both for fans of those titles and younger gamers in search of something new.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a modernised love letter to Jet Set Radio that combines fun and stylistic gameplay, with a kaleidoscope of updated Dreamcast-era visuals and sound to create a sequel in everything but name. We may never see Sega release another Jet Set Radio again, but this is the next best thing and an exciting foundation for the future.

The mechanics and visual presentation of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk are unbelievably refined. It truly looks and sounds the part of delivering a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio Future. However, it is held back by an underwhelming gameplay structure and some of the worst combat implementations in a 3D game.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is no doubt a worthy successor to Jet Set Radio. That’s not to say the game is perfect; there are some notable issues, such as falling through the floor on occasion, as well as the aforementioned poor combat sections. But those issues don’t detract from this still being one of the most fun games released this year.

The epitome of street-action romance, showcasing dazzling moves and graffiti as it races throughout the city. The stylish action perfected by intuitive controls is also complemented by outstanding scores. However, story without context, bothersome random enemies and not so intuitive UI tend to hinder the immersion.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a wonderful title for those who long for a Jet Set Radio 3. It offers beginner-friendly and enormously fun movement including trickery through all sorts of colorful and cool designed locations, packs a great soundtrack to your ears and only really disappoints in a few points like the fights or the too simple spraying.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk may come across as nostalgia bait and falter with the tagging, combat and difficulty. However, as a homage to Jet Set Radio, it succeeds while offering some neat little twists.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has a few problems, but so much soul you can't help but love it. The simple joy of movement alone is well worth writing all over New Amsterdam, but so are the music, visuals, and story. Sure, there are bumps in the road, but they won't stop you from going All City.
