Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is simply one of the best JRPG of the last decade. An instant classic and definitely the most ambitious title of all Level-5's history.

The latest Level-5 work is an extremely solid example of an action-rpg game, but ultimately fails to live up to the expectations set by its excellent first chapter. It does, however, built the foundations for its future, which, given Nin No Kuni's current quality, is likely to be extremely successful.

Because the game puts no emphasis on leveling up your kingdom, the majority of the side missions feel aimless.

Ni No Kuni II could have been genre-defining, but really, really good is just going to have to do instead. The way that the beautiful visuals meld together with Joe Hisaishi's breathtaking score is nothing short of remarkable and it all combines together for something that feels genuinely earnest and charming. While far from perfect, Ni No Kuni II is an easy recommendation for fans of JRPGs both old and new.

Overall, I loved my time with No No Kuni 2, thanks to its wonderful character designs, charming story and enjoyable game mechanics. The narrative isn't quite as chunky as the first game, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on whether you like long expositions or want some more balance between story and gameplay. Some plot points also admittedly feel a bit hurried and Evan can sound unrealistically Pollyanna-ish at times. Likable characters, a plethora of side activities, fun combat and solid storytelling, however, make Ni No Kuni 2 a must-have game for folks who pine for the Golden Age of classic JRPGs. It's the perfect chaser after Persona 5.

Level-5 was right to take its sweet time. Almost eight years adter the original game, Ni no Kuni II is as strong as its predecessor. Beautiful, varied, well paced and well written, the game almost ticks all the boxes of the J-RPG we all expect, even though it might be a little too classical and clean to surprise the core fans of the genre.

Ni No Kuni 2 manages to showcase that even without Studio Ghibli, Level-5 can still create a truly wondrous and magical JRPG. Even though the new features and strategic elements feel undercut by its easy difficulty, this is still a fine example of what the genre has to offer.

Ni No Kuni II is a charming, family-friendly JRPG set in an endearing open world, but it doesn't quite live up to the spirit of its predecessor.

Ni No Kuni 2 is a wholesome adventure that improves on the first game. New additions like the kingdom building adds another to the franchise. The art design and visuals are some of the best on the PS4 and the combat and exploration are both fun and engaging.

This feels like the beginning of a new major RPG franchise to compete with the other giants. If you like this style of game you'll love it and if you're not usually into JRPGs it's a perfect gateway to the genre.

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom wanted so much to be bigger that it forgot what makes a jRPG game a good title. Sadly, it's worse in comparison to the first one from PS3.
