Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is an ok game. The fun characters and story are engaging but the game does feel old. For fans of the original version, this game will be great for you. For new players, this game will test your patience.

All in all, I had a lot of fun playing Tales of Vesperia. So far I’ve spent over 75 hours on it and I can say that this definitive edition was highly worth pre-ordering. I’d recommend the game to most JRPG fans because, despite being a 10 year old game, I do believe it holds up well today and graphically, it isn’t half bad either. Although, because of the half-assed localization, the lack of story depth at times and the clunkier gameplay, I can’t give this game as high of a rating as I would like to. If you can look past the issues I’ve mentioned, or if it one day gets some kind of localization fix patched in, then go for it. If not, this might be a game you’re either better off passing up, or buying on sale (for reference, the MSRP at launch was $49.99).

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is a well-restored version of one of the most memorable games of the Tales series. Tales of Vesperia is not a great JRPG but Lovely Characters, beautiful storytelling, and Fun gameplay, and of course its beautiful artistic effects make Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition a fun and engaging experience despite its flaws.

GOOD - Tales of Vesperia is a good JRPG that will appeal very much to fans of the genre. It has a captivating story, great voice acting, and a very cute and colorful cast. A lackluster overworld and awkward combat system keeps it from being a truly great title.

This is indeed the Definitive Edition of Tales of Vesperia, just don’t expect it to blow your socks off like it once did, that’s all.

Fans of the series will (and should) relish the chance to finally play this entry in the series, and there's enough Tales goodness here to make it worth the wait. The story is involving, the acting is top-notch, and the remastered graphics are colorful and (mostly) crisp. However, these may not be at a level that will win over anyone who's never played a Tales game before. And to those who moved to the Switch from the PS3/4 and have recently enjoyed Tales of Xillia, Zestiria or Berseria, the overall presentation and combat system will feel like a regression. As long as you're okay with that, you'll enjoy this Tale.

Fitting for a game called ‘Tales' Vesperia spins a good yarn, but ultimately the game is showing its age.

Formulaic but not always predictable, this remains the best of the Tales series and one of the definitive Japanese role-players of the 2000s.

At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with Tales of Vesperia if you’re looking for a great RPG that isn’t Kingdom Hearts III.

Tales of Vesperia offers an exciting journey and a great gameplay for anyone who mastered it, but suffers from the poor quality of some of the elements that are not suitable for RPG games at the moment.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is truly a love letter from Namco Tales Studios to fans of the franchise. While the main story is a touch trite and the combat a little dull, it's worth it to accompany this cast of interesting and nuanced characters on their journey to save the day.

The cast is colorful and fun, battles are fun, and the story will keep players engaged as long as they don’t mind the occasional back-tracking.

Tales of Vesperia still holds up as a game that is absolutely charming and enjoyable to play, with a multi-faceted cast of characters and a story of intrigue. It’s a JRPG that deserves your attention, even despite its tangible flaws.

No, this isn't another Final Fantasy nor a new episode of Kingdom Hearts. Although we are not talking about some masterpiece, Tales of Vesperia is still a great japanese RPG, which gets more enjoyable the more you play. At the very end, you'll feel a great feeling that you've just experienced an unique adventure.

In video games, twenty years are an eternity an even ten years ago sounds remote. One of the best things that can be said about Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, more than years old now, is that it’s surprisingly in good shape even now.
