The Sinking City on Switch may not be the prettiest way to play the game, but it’s a feature-complete alternative way to do so. Despite the graphical downgrades and overall ‘fuzzy’ experience, this version of the game runs really well and even offers a few new costumes which you can’t obtain on any other platform. Once you’ve adjusted to the visuals, the 50+ hour experience was a joy to play, performing very well and even offering a few extra features such as motion controls and touch screen support for those who wish to play a little differently. As the game is now on all four major platforms, if you like games from this genre, you should certainly check it out.

At $50 US if Sherlock Lovecraft Private Assassin sounds like a good time to you then this one is an easy call. The story is solid, the acting is surprisingly good, the detective part of the game is intriguing, and the combat gets the job done.

The Sinking City provides top-tier gameplay in the psychological horror genre, and brilliantly blends beautiful surroundings with a terrifyingly haunting and mysterious presence. Horror fans, especially, will want to pick this up at their earliest convenience.

There has been a real run of Lovecraftian horror titles coming to the Switch of late, no doubt making horror fans quite happy, and among them The Sinking City is the one doing it's best to swing for the production values fences...

The Sinking City is a great detective game on the surface, but when diving deep, there are a lot of cracks that hinder its ability to succeed.

When it comes to detective games, The Sinking City features some of the best gameplay that I've ever experienced in the genre.

With a distinct lack of hand holding, in-depth investigative mechanics, and a solid mix of open world design with mythos monsters, The Sinking City is the standard for Lovecraftian games.

It won’t scare your socks off, but if you can avoid getting bogged down by The Sinking City’s clunkier elements, there’s enough to enjoy here.

The Sinking City is the best game inspired by lovecraft's works that has been ever made. An exciting story, lot of mysteries, amazing atmosphere and many unique detective abilities, are waiting for you in Oakmont city. If you love games like detective based games like L.A Noire, you must not miss The Sinking City.

The Sinking City is obviously not a complete open-world action adventure title, but it offers enough to keep you engaged with some solid story and atmosphere, great characters, wonderful modeling of the city of Oakmont, and that strange feeling that you would expect from H.P. Lovecraft works. If you can skip past some of the game's shortcomings, you'll get to experience something that you never did before.

Those invested in the Cthulhu mythos might be interested in the tale found in The Sinking City, but most others should wait until the game is patched.

For fans of Lovecraftian horror, The Sinking City is filled with... fishy details and lore that is used to enrich the world that Frogwares has created. Private Investigator Charles Reed must voyage through the deepest and most disturbing parts of his mind, as well as Oakmont itself, to find a way to rid the town residents of their visions. Doing what he does best, Reed must investigate and solve crimes while battling the horrors that jump out from the dark. While it lacks a bit of polish, The Sinking City is an otherwise weird and mind-bending journey, bundled with all the ingredients for a great experience.

The Sinking City feels like a victim of low budget. There's solid core gameplay (except terrible shooting), interesting story, and the feeling that it could have been be so much more.

The Sinking City is a thoughtful take on the source material, but is nearly destroyed by the poorly-executed open world and actions sequences.

The Sinking City is a decent adaptation of Lovecraft's work, meshing dark themes with a variety of great investigations that culminate into tricky decisions. If the combat was less clunky and the world more polished, it would have beckoned all to its desolate shore.
