More than just a simple remake of a cherished classic, Resident Evil 2 is a reinvigoration of the entire franchise, showing just how much life it still has left without the need to make drastic gameplay or stylistic changes. From start to end, this is a phenomenal showcase of old mixed with new, both giving players the chance to relive an important chapter in the life of the series under fantastic new conditions, while also potentially paving the way for Resident Evil for years to come.
Dragon Age: Inquisition gives fans exactly what they've been clamoring for: an enormous adventure across a multitude of sprawling environments, but still laced with the series' signature blend of political intrigue and character-driven emotional undercurrents. And just as with past installments, its strict interrogation of the human condition through believable, engaging characters is what truly defines Dragon Age above all, allowing it to rise above the rest of the fantasy fluff crowding the genre.
The third proper installment of Sony's LittleBigPlanet series adds three new characters, several new tools, and a creation system with more options than ever before. Plus, the game is backward-compatible, so every unlocked item or created level from the first two games can be used here. Whether you just want to play or want to prove you're a top-notch designer, LittleBigPlanet 3 should have what you're looking for.
If Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's storytelling ambitions disappoint, the same can't be said of the upgrades to gameplay. In both campaign and multiplayer, the exoskeleton and other futuristic gadgetry breathe new life into a franchise that seemed increasingly trapped in the shadow of the original Modern Warfare.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) takes last year's tested formula and adds new features like leveling characters, streamlined editing tools for the Toy Box, and a cast of characters straight from your favorite Marvel comics and movies. While the new Play Sets are only a modest improvement over the ones from last year, the Toy Box is even more amazing, making this the perfect place for those wanting to express their creativity.
Despite its designation as a "rogue-lite," Rogue Legacy delivers just as much addictive live-die-repeat challenge as any "full-fledged" members of the genre. Short of maxing out on every possible trait (an undertaking that would prove rather expensive in-game) the optional, RPG-style progression system never robs this roguelike's random dungeons of their punishing nature and need for patience, a thoughtful approach, and the occasional bout of luck.
Resogun Heroes expands upon the core game's already fantastic offerings with two highly enjoyable new modes that offer fans some interesting twists on Housemarque's side-scrolling PS4 shooter.
The best representation of the action that happens inside the Octagon yet. While it's not simple, the control scheme is still easy enough to learn that it takes the experience to an entirely new level as you break your opponents down standing up, in the clinch, or on the mat. With outstanding next-gen visuals, EA Sports UFC is good enough to carry around a championship belt.
Transistor falters near the end by giving players access to a few game-breakingly powerful abilities, but the anticlimax is more than made up for by its touching story, gorgeous presentation, and imaginative take on the action-RPG formula.

Protagonist Delsin Rowe's story is more interesting than former leading man Cole MacGrath's, and his powers are more fun to use, too. As far as I'm concerned, this is the first must-play PS4 title.
Another expertly produced retro-inspired shooter from Housemarque, Resogun gives players an immensely impressive level of depth, challenge, replayability, and graphical prowess that stands as one of the best ways to be introduced to the recently launched PlayStation 4.

It stands as one of the best Wii U titles this season, constantly delivering creative twists on what the platformer genre that Nintendo has been tapping for so long. It's an absolute must buy for fans of the Yoshi series.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze makes another strong case for the argument that Nintendo needs to port every single one of its Wii U games to the Switch. DK's latest adventure is one of the most clever, joyful platforming experiences I've had in a while, and it adds just enough newness to the series to keep the formula engaging without going overboard. There might not be enough (or anything) to convince Wii U owners to play it again, but long-lost Nintendo fans who came back for the Switch have another must-play game to add to their growing libraries.
A terrific blend of story, gameplay, and graphics, Ori and the Blind Forest is an unforgettable debut for indie developer Moon Studios.
I only wish Kalimba were a bit longer, because its inventive puzzles, charming art style, and tight controls equal a winning combination for this quaint puzzle-platformer.
Sunset Overdrive may not be destined to receive the same kind of attention or hype fellow Xbox One releases like Halo: The Master Chief Collection or Titanfall have, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most creative, enjoyable, endearing, or satisfying gaming options the console has to offer.
The formula that has kept Rocket League fresh translates exceedingly well to Nintendo's hybrid system, whether docked or portable. Less polished visuals are a small price to pay to be able to play Rocket League anytime, anywhere, at a performance level that never quits, though the notable jaggies and (through no fault of its own) a hindered party system mean that the Switch version isn't the most competitive version of the game.
Pushmo's Wii U debut maintains the franchise's exceptional standard of fun, deep puzzles, but don't be surprised if you find yourself occasionally missing the portability and 3D functionality of the first two games.
