Ghostwire Tokyo: Spider’s Thread may be a free update, but it is integral to taking a good game towards something truly great. The few additions to combat genuinely help the game flow, and new missions and a roguelite mode are just the icing on the cake. Tango Gameworks is dedicated to making Ghostwire a worthwhile game, and it won’t be long before it sits in a similar cult classic spot as The Evil Within 2. I hope that Ghostwire gets a sequel one day because it is one of many titles on the cusp of something extraordinary, but it just needs a little more room to grow.
Anyone who played and enjoyed Ghostwire: Tokyo the first time, and has Xbox Game Pass, will certainly want to make another run at it and check out the improvements and new content. For those who missed it at release, it’s maybe even easier to recommend Ghostwire: Tokyo now. Be warned that the first few hours ramp up fairly slowly and the supernatural combat is both creative and a little unpolished. Still, the narrative, world-building, lore, and unique approach to the first-person action game help make Ghostwire: Tokyo both successful and a bit different.
Ghostwire: Tokyo possesses a culmination of a good story, fun side missions, tightly written dialogues, great combat, and much more to furnish a fundamentally unique open-world action adventure that will surely give you the heebie-jeebies from start to finish. While it isn’t perfect, Ghostwire: Tokyo still a fine project that Tango Gameworks can be proud of, and seeing that it’s now on Xbox Game Pass, it’s a huge bonus. Plus, the inclusion of The Spider’s Thread provides more content to have you sticking around a lot longer.
Listen, I really liked Ghostwire Tokyo quite a bit; the story of Akito trying to save his sister and KK’s need for revenge made a good pairing. As I said above both men grew over the course of the adventure and ended it differently than they began and that is what I love to see from any story…. growth. The spooky bits here aren’t as intense as Tango is usually known for and that may be due to the FPS nature of the action in the game but nonetheless Ghostwire Tokyo is a game that should be played and since its finally come home to Xbox the barrier of entry is even lower and if you like ghosts and things this one won’t disappoint.
Ghostwire: Tokyo as a whole though is a very unique experience with few issues working against it. The sidekick KK stood out to me. But I was not a fan of protagonist Akito as well as most of the main cast. Even Akito’s sister felt very underutilized in the story. The gameplay and enemy variety is great. But the game’s map gets in the way of a lot of it. While only one of the four bosses was truly enjoyable. The spider’s thread game mode is great but only highlights the negatives in the bloat. For every pro there is a con, making this game only recommendable for its stellar gameplay and enemy design.
Spider's Thread makes a great game even better. Ghostwire: Tokyo didn't get nearly the level of attention it deserved on its initial release last year, and now that the game is free for Game Pass and PS+ subscribers (and generally inexpensive enough to buy on PC), there's even less reason why it should be slept on. Do yourself a favour and get it now.
Ghostwire: Tokyo on the Xbox Series X successfully creates an interactive Japanese horror movie on this next-gen console that is filled with scares and enjoyable gaming moments. Best of all, this version has all the latest updates and improvements that really fine-tunes this gaming experience.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is a good game, if only for how thick and unnerving the story and world might be. While the gameplay does come up a bit empty, the story helps to pick up the slack and make the adventure worthwhile.
This Game Pass release is adding more variety with the "Spider's Thread" update, which adds a new Ghostwire: Tokyo game mode and additional story elements. The narrative bonuses include new areas, enemies, and extended cutscenes that flesh out the weaker parts of Akito's journey. The new game mode is a roguelike gauntlet that sees Akito fighting through increasingly difficult stages to reach the end. Overall, this Xbox Game Pass release not only preserves the experience of the initial release of Ghostwire: Tokyo but comes a ton of new features that make this just as easy a recommendation as it was the first time around.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is an intriguing gameplay experience, one that is marred by simplistic combat and repetitive mechanics.
Wonderfully, uniquely esoteric, Ghostwire: Tokyo is like little else. A cracking first-person paranormal yarn ripe with fresh ideas, oddly endearing characters, and an immersive world to explore, this is Tango Gameworks' most assured and accomplished game to date. Get wired in.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is an atmospheric and somewhat ambitious game, with a vertical semi-open world gameplay arena dotted with ghoulish nasties and side-quests steeped in folklore, atop a supernatural thriller plot. The game's combat is sluggish initially, but it becomes increasingly satisfying as you unlock more powers. Weaving elemental magic sprinkled with some stealth elements for good measure. Sadly, everything new and fresh Ghostwire: Tokyo brings to the table is hamstrung by the game's awful performance on Xbox, which makes the game a true slog.
With a terrifyingly realistic representation of Shibuya, Ghostwire: Tokyo offers an experience in which death, evil and the supernatural are everywhere.

Ghostwire Tokyo’s Xbox release is a triumph. Not content to rest on their laurels, the hardworking developers over at Tango Gameworks have taken a year to evaluate what didn’t work with the original release, and in turn, have done a commendable job that not only adds a substantial amount of new content but also fixes a lot of the issues that dragged the 2022 release down. Ghostwire: Tokyo may still suffer from a couple of legacy issues with regards to the pacing and overall movement, but they’re small blemishes on an otherwise impeccable re-release that’s absolutely worth investing in, regardless of whether you’re stepping into Akito’s shoes for the first time, or intending on making a return trip to the demonic streets of Tokyo.
The wait was definitely worth it for this one! Overall, Ghostwire: Tokyo impresses me with fun and satisfying gameplay, an intriguing story, and beautiful visuals. I never had any issues with performance or pop-in, everything ran as smooth as a hot sake. The new mode, The Spider’s Thread, presents a fun challenge for those craving more Thread Weaving action that doesn’t get stale, even after multiple rounds (or deaths).
Ghostwire: Tokyo is finally on Xbox, and of course, it’s on Game Pass. It features fast and fluid combat, that takes a little too long to get going. The gorgeous recreation of Japan is hampered by severe performance issues in all but the ugliest graphical mode, but the story is interesting enough to push on through. It might not reach the highs of the studio’s title Hi-Fi Rush, but few games do and Ghostwire: Tokyo is a damned fun game in its own right.
Ghostwire Tokyo is a high quality adventure, capable of mixing traditional open world mechanics with all the charme of Japanese folklore to give life to a unique experience, capable of keeping the player glued until the end. More so thanks to the new Spider's Thread update, which makes the offering even more complete. Recommended both to lovers of open world games and the ones looking for a satisfying first person horror experience.

Despite the performance issues I encountered, Ghostwire: Tokyo is a remarkable game that I believe will appeal to a wide target audience due to its genre and unique setting. The combination of horror elements and combat action made the game lively in every instance. The visuals are stunning to admire and the audio is perfect for the setting of the game. The side quests could have been given more detail but still allowed me to break up my gameplay. Immersive, thrilling, and entirely worthy of multiple playthroughs if you’re up for the challenge.
Ghostwire falls just short of delivering in its finale, but its one of the most unique experiences I'll have all year.
Overall, Ghostwire Tokyo is well worth a play. It doesn’t contain the largest game world you will find in a Bethesda game but it’s packed with things to do and the gameplay, for the most part, is a lot of fun. It might not be the swansong we hoped it would be from the publishing studio but it’s far from being a bad game either.
