Gangs of Sherwood promises an abundance of enjoyment with its extensive array of specialised moves designed for all four playable characters and a combat system that is both enjoyable and addictive. However, the game grapples with a relatively thin and underdeveloped narrative, coupled with graphics that occasionally appear dated and, dare I say, unattractive.
Gangs of Sherwood was fun for 15 minutes. Every second after that was a dreadful monotony that I cannot recommend to anyone living or dead.
Gangs of Sherwood certainly isn't the deepest or most convoluted game on the planet, but it never pretends to be anything more than it is; a game made to be enjoyed with friends with a simplistic premise. It is genuinely good, surface level fun with friends, and it has all the basics of what a game like this should have, but it also comes with plenty of room for improvement in future DLC or future instalments.
From a gameplay perspective, Gangs of Sherwood breaks little in the way of new ground. But thanks to the talent of its developer, an eye for creative world design, and the classic, swashbuckling spirit of yesteryear, this plucky bout of melee mayhem pushes past its limitations to deliver a great-looking and enjoyable scrapper for you and your band of merry men.
Gangs of Sherwood is a disappointing game with a short campaign, repetitive combat, and limited accessibility options
Gangs of Sherwood is okay, but it lacks any real reason to play after the story. You can play the entire game without buying new moves or changing your abilities. I didn’t need to play another character after for different dialogue since the game has them all speak anyway during cutscenes. The bosses are boring and lack any real challenge, and it was odd for them to give an extra mode dedicated to a single small boss. Right now, Gangs of Sherwood struggles to justify the £34.99 price point with how short and lack of content the game has. The game runs okay but struggles to handle a few enemies fighting all at once, and the final fight really shows this.
Gangs of Sherwood offers a lot of replay value with its fantastic action sequences, excellent character and enemy design, and big boss encounters. The story and the character interactions between the gang and enemies are really good.
Gangs of Sherwood is exactly what it needs to be: fun for everyone playing it. It's definitely a game you'll want to play with friends for the best possible experience though, so do keep that in mind if you're more of a single player kind of person. I've been having a blast with it though, and if I can convince some friends to join me, I'd imagine I'll be playing it for a fair bit of time to come.
This doesn’t beat anything out there but it does offer a decent fighting game with a unique twist on a classic Nottingham legend.
Gangs of Sherwood is a fun sleeper title that features great combat and characters. I enjoyed playing through each hero and seeing their unique abilities at play. With great level design, plenty of secrets, and replay value, especially when playing with friends, Gangs of Sherwood may be the co-op title you're looking for this holiday season.
Pick up Gangs of Sherwood and you might get a few hours of entertainment out of it, especially if you play it with friends. Ultimately, though, this is a mediocre action game with a litany of issues ranging from unbalanced characters to sub-par presentation. For that reason it’s difficult to recommend, even if you’re intrigued by its visually fresh take on the legend of Robin Hood. Though to be honest, this doesn’t feel like a Robin Hood game at all. There’s little stealing from the rich to give to the poor here. And aside from Friar Tuck, his band of merry men doesn’t really seem all that merry.
With excellent characters, great gameplay, and a fun setting, Gangs of Sherwood is one of the best beat 'em ups in recent years.

Gangs of Sherwood not only pays homage to the legend of Robin Hood but also sets a new standard for narrative-driven gameplay, strategic depth, and immersive world-building. With its captivating visuals, engaging gameplay mechanics, and a narrative that responds to player choices, this title is a great for anyone seeking an unforgettable journey into the heart of medieval England’s most famous forest, but the lack of multi-player Crossplay, accessibility options and use of the Dualsense controller makes us question if the game could have done better with more time.
Gangs of Sherwood is a pleasant surprise, with the stylish combat and rewarding co-op play ensuring it stands out as a multiplayer treat. Don’t get me wrong, it’s rough around the edges and is a chore to play solo, but if you get a few friends together to join you, it can be a really fun experience. There are certainly better third-person action games out there, but if you’re looking for something fresh to scratch that multiplayer itch, Gangs of Sherwood is worth checking out.
There's something here that could have been brilliant. With just a little more time in the oven to give more variety in missions, a more interesting skill set and more different enemies, this could have been a fun game to play with three friends. Now it is a game that is fun for one mission and then quickly forgotten.

The outlaws fighting the Sheriff of Nottingham, even in the modern conception, have failed to make a significant impact and are pulling the short end of the rope. Only time will tell if the game will eventually find enough fans.

Gangs of Sherwood shows initial promise with its creative setting and colourful combat but runs out of steam well before the end of its already brief running time.
I recommend it for the online play, but as a single-player experience I would stay far away.
As a co-op gang party, Gangs of Sherwood can provide you with a few hours of fun that offers a fresh and exciting take on the legend of Robin Hood. But as a Single-player experience, it is a tough sell. The game’s premise, story, and themes are captivating thanks to its visuals, voice-overs, and performance which are impressive and enjoyable. But it is bogged down by its repetitive gameplay and barren maps that lack player interactivity. On top of that, there is no level-based progression system except for a few unlockable moves and items. Overall, it’s best if you wait for a sale on this one if you don’t have a party to hang out with.
