I came into PES 2018 ready to be won over, and converted into a PES fan. Unfotunately, I came away being disappointed.

PES 2018's gameplay feels incredibly random when playing against the AI, and it's incredibly frustrating to have to deal with.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 offers a huge single-player content with a variety of modes that suits everyone. The realistic gameplay adds an exciting challenge for your skills, sadly though PES still suffers with the online mode not having enough players at times and not connecting properly at other times.

The end-to-end gameplay of Pro Evolution Soccer is a double-edged sword. It's the reason it's so exciting to play – goal fests are, by their very nature – but it also contributes into making a game that feels unrealistic at best. And then there's Konami and its licensing troubles, which seems to further deteriorate each year.

Currently, I'm unconvinced by Pro Evolution Soccer 2018. It has all the trademarks of what a great footballing game should be, but sloppy presentation, jerky in-game transitions, poor commentary and a lack of exciting multiplayer modes leave this one still trailing FIFA's dust.

When it comes to soccer, Konami’s PES is always one of the best games in the market! However, since the first PES released, it has been through a lot of up-and-downs. Luckily now, Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is A1! It benefits from top-notch gameplay and improved controls and graphics, yet it lacks licensed clubs and suffers from some technical issues.

PES 2018 still plays a solid game of soccer, but is unable to carry on the momentum built up with last year's good outing. A few gameplay stumbles let down what is otherwise a largely unchanged experience.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is one of the most solid (yet least flashy) sports sims on the market. Every year, PES seems to further carve out its own identity and plant a flag for players who want a deeper, less forgiving, and yet somehow more familiar soccer-playing experience. Everything in PES 2018 is earned, and while some of it still could use some polish, it continues to take steps forward. How long it can withstand the tidal wave of FIFA's recent successes and licensing dominance, however, remains to be seen.

This is the best Pro Evolution Soccer of the last years and it guarantees hours and hours of entertainment online or with your friends. However, its wonderful graphics are not enough to compensate the lack of licenses and the lack of innovation in some game modes.

But the lack of stadium atmosphere, the non-existent crowds and the frustrations for offline players really do have an impact on the overall enjoyment of Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.

Were this review based purely on gameplay, the score would be much higher. As a complete package, PES 2018 is good, but still incomplete.

PES 2018 feels similar to previous iterations with a few modifications here and there, most notably slowing down the game's speed. On the field, the game succeeds in presenting its own gameplay style that relies on realism, planning, and strategizing rather than just a general advance towards the goal. The game suffers outside the field however, as its game modes are not as popular as those of its competitor especially the Ultimate Team mode, and it does not shine in terms of UI, commentating, or audience interaction. The biggest problem remains is the lack of licenses for some of the major international teams.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is a terrific game and Konami have definitely scored a cracker here. It may not have the shine, the names, or the good commentary that FIFA has, but the challenging, rewarding and impressive tweaks to the AI and gameplay really do make PES2018 the most realistic and enjoyable football games on the market right now.

PES 2018 is a very solid entry into the Football Gaming Genre and it ticks 90% of the boxes for me. So it's on its way to being a great game. I just can't seem to overlook the very simple things that Konami just haven't done to get over that line for it to be a classic in my opinion. It is a very enjoyable and addictive game (which is the main thing). I think people will get a lot of playtime out of it, but will be very annoyed by the same issues that seem to plague every PES release (Goalkeepers, Commentry etc.). As well as the amount of things that are identical to the 2017 release (which is much cheaper).

Apart from some serious goalkeeper issues, PES 2018's gameplay is on par with last year's edition and is still as thrilling, if not even more so. The dated presentation, however, continues to hold it back - it needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into this decade sooner rather than later.

This year's version of PES have finally managed to offer some fun and smooth football gameplay and challenge FIFA over the best soccer simulation crown. PES 2018 still hugely suffers from lack of licenses for many teams and players, but if you want to experience the fun side of football, PES 2018 is your choice.

PES 2018 is yet another progressive game in this long-running series that wows us with its changes. The gameplay hasn’t been this fun since PES 2013 and graphics are simply stunning. That said, Konami needs to get more aggressive and competitive with EA Sports and FIFA series and with current pace, it’s just impossible. Maybe it's best for Konami to take a year off and rethink the most fundamental elements of PES.

All the pieces are there with "Pro Evolution Soccer 2018" but it feels as though many fall a little short of their full potential. "PES" is still a champion on the pitch where it matters most, but the series continues to fight an uphill battle in terms of licensing and feature set.

All in all, PES 2018 is a very good game. It has less of a wow-factor than the competition, but it scores with realistic gameplay, solid game modes, and a good presentation. PES is not a perfect game and the great gameplay is a bit flawed by the excessive flamboyance of the players, but the overall feel of the title won't make you regret the dollars spent.
