OlliOlli: Switch Stance Reviews
With simple controls but difficult to master, OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a terrific bundle giving you the best modern skating games around. Even if you manage to ace all of its challenges, competing against players on daily leaderboards will be sure to keep you hooked.
OlliOlli: Switch stance is an awesome combination of two great games and packed with fun content. If you're a skateboarding fan or you just like a good sidescoller then you'll definitely want to check this one out.
All in all OlliOlli: Switch Stance on the Nintendo Switch is a great game to play. At £13.49(Nintendo eShop) If you own a Nintendo Switch, you should own OlliOlli: Switch Stance. It’s THAT fun, and for the reason that I’ve become incredibly addicted to its gameplay very quickly, I’m awarding it the highly coveted Thumb Culture Platinum Award. So go buy it. Go buy it now! It has an incredible dollar to time spent playing ratio and you shouldn’t miss out.
OlliOlli Switch Stance is easily one of the best values you can get on the Switch eShop. The first OlliOlli came to the 3DS/Wii U, and I played it on the former system many years ago, but this is the first time the sequel has even appeared on an Nintendo system. Bundled with the first game, you can easily see which elements have evolved and which elements are new, but both titles are worth playing through at least on the normal levels, due to the fun score-chaser nature and how there’s a bunch of fun, challenging stuff to do if you want to go for 100%.
OlliOlli: Switch Stance fills the void left in the skateboarding genre rather nicely with its unique and rewarding trick system and snappy gameplay. The fact it’s a straightforward port with little in the way of extra content may disappoint returning players but for those craving something to fill that Tony Hawk-sized hole in their hearts this should do the job.
If you haven't played the series before then OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a no-brainer. There's not much reason to return, but the gameplay remains as satisfying as ever.
OlliOlli Switch Stance is a tight, responsive and simple reimagining of the high-scoring skater skill game
An inspired mix of skateboarding and 2D platforming that manages to combine a surprising level of realism with some enjoyably impossible level design.
If you’re into skateboarding games or even just games that offer short skill-based challenges that you can dip into occasionally, OlliOlli: Switch Stance comes highly recommended. This Switch port of both games doesn’t really offer anything new for those who have played either title to death before, but those who are yet to dive into an OlliOlli game will find themselves presented with a generous package that feels right at home on Switch.
In a recent interview with creative director of Roll 7 studios, John Ribbins, he describes a bit of his own personal experience as a lifelong skater. This is something that can be seen in every aspect of the OlliOlli bundle. Especially the central focus on pulling fun tricks, and doing so with perfect timing. It feels like an idea worn to perfection over decades of work. Ribbins actually describes having coded a functional version of OlliOlli at around age 13. The core concept being a fast, twitchy arcade game that felt "true to skating". This idea still shines brightly in today's version of the game, and is not done through the inclusion of things like Chad Muska with a boombox, or an un-lockable version of the new Vans 2019 catalogue. Roll 7 chose instead to "make a kickflip look like a kickflip". They chose to make a skating game that focuses on pitch-perfect timing and playing with our desire to cram just ONE more trick into our combo.
OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a 2D skateboarding simulator that refuses to lie to its players. You will struggle and you will experience pain. It is going to be difficult, but if you can pull it off, it can be incredibly satisfying… even if the execution of such tricks involved a healthy heaping of dumb luck and/or divine intervention.
The 2D skateboarding series comes to Switch and is worth checking out whether you're new to it or not
GREAT - OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a satisfying and fun skateboarding game that will challenge you to complete tricks to achieve the highest score. String them together by landing on rails and grinding, launching back up to nail another trick, and then land perfectly to increase your score. Landing in a sloppy way or falling off rails and stairs will send you to last place with shame in your eyes.
While lacking the variety and skateboarding craziness of something like the Tony Hawk series both the original and sequel included in this pack are more well-made than your typical stunt-focused title...
A fun new version of the OlliOlli games, but not without problems.

The OlliOlli series offered some of the best skateboarding games you could buy back when they released many years ago. Fast forward to 2019 and both games still hold up brilliantly. OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a fantastic port of a superb set of games, and it's priced fairly to boot. This slick yet brutally addictive gameplay loop is just as much of a blast to play as it was 5 years ago.
OlliOlli: Switch Stance keeps the difficult yet satisfying gameplay of this indie hit intact as it makes its way to Nintendo’s newest console. As long as you’re prepared for a challenge, this is a pretty fun title.
A learning curve can be a barrier initially, but once you learn the ropes, you'll just want to keep skating forever. Although the second game is the better of the two, the difference isn't stark enough to warrant skipping out on the first. These both fit the textbook definition of perfect on-the-go games – while not the most visually impressive games out there, they are perfect for both quick bursts of fun or hours of intense focus and mastery.
Don’t let the simple aesthetic fool you, OlliOlli and its sequel are damn near flawless skateboarding games that hold up incredibly well in 2019.
OlliOlli may be a tricky series to master but it's very rewarding to do so.
