There's a decent game in here somewhere, but Mass Effect: Andromeda feels like a collaboration from Mass Effect fans rather than a group of known and established developers.

Andromeda is not a terrible game, but it's not what could have been. I applaud BioWare for what they've done with the game and their willingness to accept the original trilogy "as is" while branching out into a wildly different territory. The introduction of the Kett, the mystery surrounding the Remnant, and the new combat system makes this game a fun experience in its own right. Tossing in the extra baggage of tedious/pointless quests, annoying glitches (hopefully fixed by the first major patch), and a general empty feeling makes me wonder about what might have been.

To the credit of BioWare, despite Andromeda's many flaws I still wanted to visit the planets with my teammates, to progress and colonise new worlds. It is a solid game, but one with issues that appear worse than they are due to high expectations the developers have earned from a stellar history of better RPGs. Would I be thrilled about the prospect of another game set in the Andromeda galaxy? Probably not. However, if future games can push past the familiar and embrace ideas of the "unknown" that Andromeda aspires to, but never realises, then I do think the series still has something to offer.

There is a strong core of characters and story bedrock laid down in Mass Effect: Andromeda, but between questionable design choices, boring missions, and glitches galore, it's hard not to view BioWare's journey to a brand new galaxy as anything less than mission failure.

In many ways, this new chapter fails to live up to its predecessors.

Mass Effect deserves better than Andromeda. The series has stumbled into a new generation, weighed down by tedious open world tropes and a catalogue of performance issues on the PS4. That said, it's not quite the disaster that some would have you believe. There really is a good Mass Effect game here, complete with endearing characters and great combat, but it's buried beneath a mountain of unnecessary clutter. In time, patches may sort many of its problems out, but until then, we can only recommend Andromeda to the BioWare faithful.

BioWare is a pillar of the gaming landscape, but somewhere along the line the Andromeda project steered off course. Who knows where this leaves the franchise, but any sequel is going to have to rediscover its focus or just like the Initiative, fans may also choose to emigrate to pastures new.

Whether you're new to Mass Effect or a long-time fan like me, there's a passable adventure here. But in order to actually have any fun you'll have to ignore the enormous amounts of chaff and stick to the story.

Problems are inevitable in a game of such epic proportions but there is a lot here that will make you want to keep playing

Weirdly enough, despite how frustrating and silly all of these problems were, I still wanted to push ahead and see more, but not because I expected anything to improve. Part of it was my nostalgia for the Mass Effect trilogy. Another reason I wanted to keep going was because I genuinely hoped there might be some way to redeem all of the bad parts that have kept me steaming and laughing my head off at the same time.

Mass Effect Andromeda falls short of its predecessors, but it's still a competently executed open-world action RPG with an interesting world and tons of quests to complete. Its biggest shame is that it doesn't make better use of its setting, opting instead to go with more of the same. Hopefully BioWare will be more ambitious when it comes time for the inevitable sequel.

Andromeda's combat soars but its storytelling sputters, making the series' first venture into uncharted space a shaky but occasionally satisfying new adventure.

What could have been an all-time classic action role-player is let down by a surprisingly poor script and unengaging characters.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a great game buried under a mountain poor design choices and narrative shortcomings. Everything is more complicated than it needs to be, and the sheer amount of busy work forced upon the player is staggering, but if you can be bothered to put in a few hours doing the admin there are plenty of rewards for fans of the series. It's not the Mass Effect you were hoping for, and it doesn't live up to the high standard set by the original trilogy, but as a jumping off point for a new trilogy in a new galaxy there are enough promising characters and intriguing story elements to suggest the Andromeda 2 might be everything you wished this game would be.

Mass Effect is not what it used to be. It feels like playing a Pre-Alpha build with tons of bugs, a slow paced story, a mind-numbing travel system, topped off with a completely broken Multiplayer. The only positive things are the combat and sheer amount of singleplayer content. Sadly this is overshadowed by poor technical performance and lackluster side quests.

The game is very fun and you'll find yourself spending hours and hours without getting bored but unfortunately Mass Effect Andromeda having significant quality problem, fighting system and skill tree in addition to dazzling environments also design variety, but complexity in unnecessary things like side missions pushing developers to neglect the main story, Problem with the game that Mass Effect Andromeda is unfinished production with quality problem but when you play it you will find the game not bad at all and definitely enjoyable but when evaluated objectively there will be a lot of problems that cannot be condoned within the core of the game

Despite all the positives Andromeda" is the worst entry in 10 years of Mass Effect. Flaws and setbacks in the narrative, characters and shameful bugs and technical issues and many other problems outweigh the positives from shining and turning the game to a title on par with the trilogy
