SteamWorld Dig 2 Reviews
A 3DS classic gets a follow-up that doubles down on the charm.
SteamWorld Dig 2 retains the original's addictive resource-gathering gameplay, but supplements it with a gorgeously detailed, handcrafted world. Its heady mix of exploration, combat, platforming, and puzzle solving, alongside an expansive set of abilities and mods gives it plenty of variety and a great gameplay rhythm. I wish there was more to do once the campaign ends, but that's a testament to the fact that what is here is just about pitch perfect.
The SteamWorld franchise digs deeper than ever and comes up with another charming mix of Metroidvania and Boulder Dash.
The “dig, upgrade, repeat” formula never gets old thanks to fun gameplay and a steady stream of new powers
SteamWorld Dig 2 is a brilliant evolution of the first that not only expands upon its hybrid formula, but presents it in its best light.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is a worthy addition to any library, but stands out on the Switch because it works great as a portable game and also looks amazing on a big TV. I took about 15 hours to track down every collectible, but it'll probably take most people around ten for their first playthrough. It's perfectly playable with the Joy-Con, but I used a Pro Controller for most of the game to take advantage of the cross pad. If you haven't gotten your fill of Metroid gameplay after playing Samus Returns, you'll definitely enjoy delving into SteamWorld Dig 2.
Action, exploration, platforming, beautiful visuals... SteamWorld Dig 2 improves everything from the original game, adding some metroidvania elements, and making it one of the best indies for the Nintendo Switch.

SteamWorld Dig 2 resumes the predecessor's success formula, expands it and makes it mature, especially in level design. In a nutshell, a great game.

Dorothy and Fen's adventure is a brilliant slice of zen gaming, a treat. Image & Form have knocked the it out of the park with this sequel.
I adored Heist and didn't really play much of the first Dig, but I now consider myself a fan of the SteamWorld canon. Image & Form is doing great work with this universe, and I wouldn't want to miss this sequel. Even if you're going from Metroid: Samus Returns, which is similar, directly into Dig 2, I still think you'll come away thrilled and looking in the developer's direction hoping they have something else new coming very soon.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is just about as competent a Metroidvania game as you're likely to find in 2017. Its platforming and combat is solid, and its exploration is always a joy. What this fun sequel lacks in ambition, it makes up for in polish and charm.
Another great achievement from Image & Form. SteamWorld Dig 2 takes everything that made the first game good and ups the ante in every way. Easily a must-buy game.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is perfect fit for users of portable gaming devices, such as Nintendo Switch or PlayStation Vita. But game will look great on a big screen TV too.

Once again Image & Form continue to pour heart, soul and quality into their games. Steamworld Dig 2 is another near perfect entry in the Steamworld universe, and the enhanced art design makes me wish that they go back to both the original Dig and Heist and update them and release them on the Switch. I would be the first in line to buy them again.
Steamworld Dig 2 is better than the first one in every single aspect. The level design is outstanding and the graphics are charming as ever when it comes to Image & form. The best indie game of 2017 so far.

For fans of SteamWorld Dig we suspect the recommendation isn't needed as they'll buy this anyway. For those that skipped the first game, however, Dig 2 is a must-have - its charming aesthetic and cast set the scene for a tightly designed and clever exploration game. Now the wait begins for SteamWorld Dig 3.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is a game that — much like the original — has no issue reveling in its simple yet undeniable gameplay loop. Fans who expect much of the same will be surprised by the polish and excellence that a hand-crafted world, power ups, and more dynamic art bring to the table. Even with the audience-limiting post-game content, this should be considered a must-have this Fall for PC and PlayStation platforms, and especially for Nintendo Switch owners.
Steamworld Dig 2 is a fantastic introduction for new players to the Metroidvania genre and offers more than enough to keep seasoned veterans fully engaged. A must-have for anyone with a Switch, this gem could charm even the most jaded gamer with its genuine, lovingly crafted world.
