Starlink: Battle for Atlas offers a courageous new experience for gamers. The usage of toys is exceptionally well done but we are not sure if it is for everyone. They are also unnecessary as they don't really give you an extra edge since the game is complete as is and tons of fun to play. Ubisoft nevertheless learned from the mistakes of No Man Sky and managed to give us everything we wanted to see in space exploration with a twist. We would personally like to see more content coming out soon along with more intractability with planets. Overall, we highly recommend this game if you are into space exploration games.

At its core, Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a fantastic space exploration game, with solid flights, fights and enemies, but can be a complicated toys-to-life proposition to recommend, and understand.

An engaging entry point into space combat and exploration, with just enough sophistication to be attractive to some veteran pilots

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is really a title that begs for a sequel. As a proof of concept, it's an absolute success

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a fantastic sci-fi game that's well worth playing no matter how old you are. The physical toys are attractive enough to adorn any shelf, and robust enough to actually be played with, while a large collection of ships isn't essential for completing the game, and there's even an option not to use them at all. It's a shame then that the story doesn't quite live up to rest of the game's promise, but you might be having too much fun to notice.

Ubisoft Toronto's first original IP looks great, plays beautifully, and puts a fresh and fun spin on toys that come to life inside games

Despite these issues, the game is a lot of fun, especially when you're blasting away enemies in thrilling space combat. I just wish its true potential had been realized.

Starlink: Battle For Atlas is a fun and enjoyable open-world space sim that tells a charming story with a likeable cast of characters. Despite its repetitive side activities and money-sucking selection of toys, the core gameplay loop and combat system are worth your time. The fact that everything can be brought digitally is also a plus.

A good variety of missions will please any players who haven't yet grown weary of the developer-publisher's oft-seen open-world design, making Ubisoft's risky project a game that shoots for the stars and in many ways manages to get there.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas lands on the Nintendo Switch with its additional vehicles, weapons and long exploration that make this more than just a space-based action game. While its visual environment could certainly be richer and its total price will be higher than that of most other games, Starlink presents a very engaging exploration component as well as its own Star Fox flair which fits perfectly in a Nintendo system.

Like a mashup of Star Fox and No Man's Sky, Starlink: Battle for Atlas features space combat, exploration, and a solid story to scratch your deep space itch. While presented as a toys-to-life game, the toys are entirely optional. Instead, opt for the digital version, which will get you additional content and greater convenience for about the cost of a physical Starter Pack. It's definitely the best way to play.

The story has enough to keep you engaged and the inclusion of Star Fox is inspired. I don't think this is the game that will reboot the toys-to-life genre, but I believe that it has enough to live on as a standard IP. I, for one, would be delighted to play through more adventures in the Starlink universe.

Even without the toys, or even in spite of the toys, Starlink is a great game. Add in couch Coop and this is a fun way to get younger players into RPGs of this scope. It's also one of the few RPGs of this style that deal with space an technology and aren't just pure fantasy. With an interesting story to tell and compelling game systems Ubisoft has built a solid new IP. Hopefully they can continue to expand upon it into the foreseeable future.

Despite the repetitive nature of Starlink, I still mostly enjoyed my time with it, and I think that's partially because it doesn't feel bloated content-wise. In the end, it's a game made for a younger crowd of gamers, and if I put myself in that mindset, Starlink is one hell of a good time.

Once you put aside Starlink's somewhat confused nature and design, what you're left with is a genuinely enjoyable open space adventure.

With a gorgeous visual design – even on Nintendo Switch, it's a striking-looking game – an enjoyable gameplay loop, fantastic audio design, and a lively cast of characters, there's plenty to like in Starlink: Battle for Atlas. It's a game I can see myself coming back to for a long time yet.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a surprise hit for Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, embedding Star Fox in was a masterstroke. From a surprisingly good score and audio cues from characters, to stunning vistas and scenery, there are many positives to be had. There will be many who appreciate the large number of tasks to do, but others will be deterred by the repetitiveness of them, although these are largely optional. The main issue is essentially asking what point of sale is the best value for money as no option is cheap. In fact, to enjoy all of Starlink's content can be a costly affair but even jumping in with the Standard edition or Starter pack is still £20 more than other AAA titles. Unfortunately, these barriers to entry can ruin the enjoyment for those who opt for lesser packages.

The game’s story is lacking in places, is repetitive and lacks more variations of enemies so bear this in mind but remember it’s still fun. Starfox does seem like an afterthought and I would have loved to have seen this game as a pure Starfox game but Ubisoft and Nintendo clearly opted for something else. The planets are gorgeous and well-designed but sometimes do feel barren and unloved by wildlife. There is plenty to do, as the game should give you around 20 to 25hrs worth of playtime. Everything is voiced acted so there is no need to read anything, and there is so much depth to this game just like many other Ubisoft games, so there is plenty to dig into.
