While it's good to see Nintendo stepping out of its comfort zone, Captain Toad isn't versatile enough to compete in the big leagues. It'd be a budget no-brainer, but feels too slight at a higher price.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is fundamentally strong with a solid core idea and great level design, but doesn't succeed beyond that. A more cohesive atmosphere, extra camera options, and deliberate mechanical progression could've made the experience far more satisfying. The conversion to the Switch brings along its own problems as well, making it hard to call this version definitive. As it stands, the game is a fun but forgettable adventure.

With this being our third review of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, we're running out of ways to praise this fantastic little puzzle game! It's easily one of Nintendo's most polished spinoffs to date and the fact that they've brought it over to 3DS with so few compromises is something to be commended.

It turns out that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is still a fun time albeit one that could do with a healthier dose of fresh content in this Switch version. Walking the line between platformer and puzzler, the game’s light sprinkling of elements from both help create an experience that’s fun for all ages.

If you already own or have played Captain Toad on Wii U, the greater majority of the game is likely to feel identical. A lot of it is very familiar the second time around, including the exact spots of hidden objects and how to avoid all the hurdles in your way. While there’s still a good amount of fun things to do packed in, now would have been more fitting for a Captain Toad sequel. Nevertheless, Captain Toad can hold up as a thoroughly enjoyable standalone game, especially to newcomers. There are over 70 levels to trek through, complete with a plethora of collectibles and secrets to uncover that will keep even the most dedicated fans engaged for numerous hours.

Another good title from Nintendo, but with a bit more content, could have been a great one.

It may not be the ultimate version of the game, but a smaller screen doesn't obscure the genius behind Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker's meticulously-designed, charm-packed puzzles.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a polished little gem, but the word "little" is key. While not brimming with content (it clocks in at about 7 hours), its brain-bending stages are a welcome dose of EAD Tokyo goodness, even if it does lack co-op. Short but sweet, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn't a must-play, but you're unlikely to regret buying it.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn't the most taxing puzzle game in the world, but it's well-paced and enjoyable all the same.

While this Switch re-release doesn't add as much as some may hope, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is still a delight.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a great expansion on the concept of the mini-games from Super Mario 3D World. Unfortunately, despite a lower starting price it never offers enough new elements to become truly great. You'll still enjoy every second you spend in this bright and colorful world though.

Captain Toad has its little secrets, tiny rewards, difficulty level that blooms at a leisurely pace. By the pound, what Captain Toad offers most is interactive charm. Nintendo confirms that the chef received your compliments and your complaints. This experience is new and old, the closest approximation of the feel of 8-bit NES friction in some time. Here we have a simple broth that plays on the tongue in a zesty way, both familiar and fresh.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a refreshing game and one that is charming and deceptively difficult at times. I enjoyed my brief romp through the Mushroom Kingdom and would like to see Captain Toad and Toadette in bigger and grander adventures in the future. For now though Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker should be recommended to puzzle and platformer fans alike as it delivers a solid experience with a boatload of personality to go with it.

I felt like I was a kid again finding those insects underneath the rocks, but running away at the bees that came out at times. Light on content, but a satisfying little romp that will be sure to charm everyone. Despite a price tag of $40, the game is sure to be an entertaining experience for the player. I would recommend this title to anyone who wants to try a little something new, and for Mario series fans alike – this game has something for everyone.

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is the same compelling puzzle adventure that it was on the Wii U, but now on a system that feels far more suited to its bite-sized levels and rapid pace. Its strange control quirks in docked mode make it a less alluring prospect at home, but if you're looking to kill some time anywhere else you'd struggle to find something this good to scratch that itch.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is one of the most delightfully charming puzzle games of in recent memory and the dollhouse-style puzzle boxes are wonderful to explore and it's cute and adorable all the way through. Sadly, Wii U owners will find few reasons to pick up this edition of the game, but anyone who hasn't already played Captain Toad will find a puzzle game they'll finish and just want more of.
