One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 isn’t a groundbreaking game by any means. It is a noticeable step forward for its series as a whole though, and boasts some worthwhile high points and potential that fans of the One Piece series and Musou games alike will be able to appreciate.

Although it's incredibly easy and features one of the most stubborn cameras in recent memory, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is quite possibly one of the best Warriors-style experiences you'll have on modern consoles. It's slick, fast-paced, and weirdly charming, even if you don't know your Luffys from your Crocodiles.

The gameplay is fun and the combat sequences can put a smile on a player's face, not to mention the truckloads of content. At the same time, its performance is not the best and the game loses fluidity in some moments. It also suffers from a shoddy plot development, which makes it less suitable to be a good candidate for representing the animated series, and doesn't match its Warriors peers.

One Piece. Pirate Warriors 4 is not a bad game at all as it offers a lot of frenetic and chaotic battles with simple yet fun gameplay mechanics. However, it is really predictable and its contents are what many fans (from both the anime and Musou series) would expect. Its more of the same formula we have seen in previous titles, though that is not necessarily bad or wrong; only not amusing.

You’ll likely be too busy kicking butt to notice every visual discrepancy, and at the end of the day it’s most important that a game is fun, not pretty.

The best way to describe One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is the best version you could hope for. Regardless of where story and gameplay lack, it's impossible to cover anything, especially when there will be more in the future and a lot of the faults are a result of this being a Dynasty Warrior game. If you can get past that, this is a wonderful tribute to One Piece and allows some of the latest and most expressive arcs shine. At least enough to think it is worth considering.

A solid enough entry into the beat-em-up genre, but one that is only really enjoyable if you're invested in the One Piece universe.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 adds more to the Musou formula, giving players a chance to re-experience the familiar story while adding in original content for replayability. All that adds up to a fun way to kill some time and become King of the Pirates.

Pirate Warriors 4 is a rich experience for One Piece's fans, but it doesn't even want to try to come up with something new for the musou genre.

Despite some frustrating design choices, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 makes some welcome additions to the One Piece story and the simple yet enjoyable combat, making for a great entry in the saga.

A let down it is that Omega Force couldn't dedicate as much time to the visuals as they have done the source material, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is still the kind of game — the kind of Musou too — that seemingly does the unthinkable in providing a ludicrous-yet-fulfilling action game regardless of its depth.

Overall, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 succeeds in doing what most anime-based games fail at. Its fluid, offers a tremendous amount of fan service, and not to mention its ridiculously fun to play through with fantastic production and an equally incredible soundtrack to boot. For the One Piece fans out there looking for a game of their favorite anime, I say this is the best one we have on the market so far, despite the faults it has.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, then, is not only the best Pirate Warriors game to date - as you would expect - but maybe, just maybe, the best Musou game available at the moment. Despite the reused story assets that may cheapen the experienced for seasoned Pirate Warriors vets, Omega Force once again prove they are the kings of their craft with this glorious, delicious slice into anime mayhem. Sit down, Hyrule Warriors. You aren't the pinnacle anymore.

Unless a Warriors game ends up being on the poor end of the spectrum (Looking at you, Dynasty Warriors 9), summarising them is often the same across each themed release.

It’s crazy to fathom that a Musou game is far better than it has any right to be in this day and age of more complex action game experiences. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 makes itself approachable and worth sticking with for the long haul thanks to an incredible use of its source material, a huge cast of characters to master and the type of mission structure that offers tons of fun in small/large doses.
