Sonic Mania Plus Reviews
Really, no matter how you look at it, Sonic Mania is a huge success and Sonic Mania Plus is a celebration of that success thanks to smart physical edition design and items and valuable new in-game content.
The new Angel Island Zone is just icing on the cake. If you've already played through Sonic Mania before, there's ample reason to pick Sonic Mania Plus up too, especially if you're a fan of the Blue Blazer. There's enough new content to digest, and the art book is pretty great, even if it's just a little trinket. Now... how long do we have to wait for a proper sequel?
Sega's famous blue porcupine continues to enjoy new lifeblood with this re-version: Sonic Mania Plus brings the beautiful platformer of 2017 in physical format, enriching it with a series of in-game and collectible content that make the purchase essential for those who have not played the original title.

It's a really great package for Sonic enthusiasts, and if you don't already own Sonic Mania then buying Plus is a very easy recommendation.
Sonic Mania Plus took a well-made game and made it even better, with two interesting new characters and remixed levels. The new content seems a little more geared for the superfan rather than the newcomer, which at the end of the day, is totally okay because whether you bought Mania last year or you're only just getting to it now, it is still worth checking out. It still feels very weird to say that I like playing as Ray more than playing as Sonic because it's so much fun flying around levels as a flying squirrel.
Somehow, Christian Whitehead and team have made the definitive version of Sonic even more definitive. The genuinely challenging stages are chock-full of secrets, and will require multiple playthroughs to find everything they have to offer. The lengthy campaign may not have as stellar pacing as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but it provides both nostalgia and fresh experiences. The limited lives make each death significant, though the bonus stages can easily be exploited to gain enough continues to render the threat of a true game over moot. These are small issues, to be sure – Sonic Mania Plus is the best Sonic game you can buy today.
For five bucks as a digital upgrade all of these Sonic Mania Plus additions are a no-brainer. Sure, encore and maybe the multiplayer updates would have been added as free DLC in some circles, but the new characters and the package as a whole props up one of the best platformers of 2017 for a more than reasonable price.
Sonic Mania Plus almost perfectly encapsulates what made the original Sega Genesis and CD games so much fun while updating the style so that it feels fresh and new.
If you haven't tried Sonic Mania yet, now is a better time than ever to jump in — whether you opt to pick up Sonic Mania Plus and all the extra things it brings, or just download the Encore DLC and free updates.
Whether you're new to the game or coming back for more, Sonic Mania Plus is worth your time and attention.
A year or so after the release of Sonic Mania, here comes Sonic Mania Plus, a version that adds new stuff like 2 more playable characters - Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the squirrel (who is not very pleasant), a competition mode for 4 players and more importantly Bis Mode that let us discover redesigned levels, great for those who know the original by heart. And it's still an extraordinary platformer for the blue hedgehog's fans.

If you're a hardcore fan of the original, Sonic Mania Plus is an easy buy. It adds on neatly onto your original game (no need to start all over), and will extend your playtime at least another few hours if not more.
Somehow, Sega, Christian Whitehead, and the development teams behind the original Sonic Mania have found a way to make the best Sonic game in years even better. Sonic Mania Plus is now nearly everything it could and should be, with new playable characters, modes, options, and polish sure to please fans. There's a small handful of areas in which the game could still be improved, but really, this is just about as good of a Sonic adventure as we could ever have hoped for.
As an upgrade to the excellent Sonic Mania, Sonic Mania Plus/Encore offers a pair of good new characters but underwhelms with new modes and content.
Racing through remixed and all new zones at blistering speeds is reminiscent of old Sonic while also surpassing it in almost every way. The new characters they bring to Sonic Mania Plus are excellent additions to the stable of playable critters, so it's somehow an even better package than Sonic Mania was last year.
Sonic Mania remains the best Sonic game ever made, and with its latest update, it's even better than before.
With some smart alterations to the base game provided free of charge, and brand new ways to play both the original and new remixed stages, Sonic Mania Plus is a fantastic encore to one of the best platformers in recent years.
Sonic Mania Plus adds more to a game that was already perfect
The best Sonic game in years is even better, if only just. Buy.
Sonic Mania Plus is probably what fans of Sonic Mania want, which was probably also what fans of old Sonic games wanted.
